What We’ve Been Watching
Domingos has been on the road thanks to a whirlwind of Geektown-powered premieres, screenings and Q&As, kicking off with Paramount+ juggernaut ‘Landman’. After attending the Season 2 UK Premiere in Leicester Square, complete with sand-coloured carpet, major cast appearances and serious production value, he dove headfirst into the show and became instantly hooked.
He spotlights standout rising performances from Kayla Wallace (Rebecca Falcone), Paulina Chávez (Ariana Medina), and Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris), alongside the heavyweight cast led by Billy Bob Thornton. With Taylor Sheridan’s writing firing on all cylinders, Domingos describes ‘Landman’ as “human, relatable, and beautifully messy”, capturing hopes, fears, trauma and connection with rare nuance.
Next up, Domingos hit the UK Premiere of ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’, a wild, gladiator-filled return to the iconic franchise. With creator Steven DeKnight, cast members including Nick Tarabay, and a full Roman-themed drinks-and-gold-masks affair, the event delivered theatrical spectacle… and the series itself delivers gore, grit and a surprisingly clever twist to resurrect Ashur. Expect gladiators, limbs flying, and blockbuster-level visuals polished with modern VFX firepower.
He then checked out ‘Son of the Soil’, a Nigerian–British action thriller written by and starring Raz Adoti, directed by Chee Keong Cheung. Shot entirely on location in Lagos with Nollywood cast and crew, it’s a gritty 90s-style revenge tale with vibrant cinematography and powerhouse performances.
Dave also takes a deep dive into ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5, introducing a breakout new character — Derek Turnbow, played by Jake Connelly — whom Domingos dubs “the 13-year-old John Candy/Chris Farley hybrid we didn’t know we needed”. Add Linda Hamilton, Duffer Brothers mayhem and Frank Darabont behind the camera, and the Hawkins endgame kicks off in style.
Dave’s list also features the Doctor Who spinoff ‘War Between the Land and the Sea’, which launched with astonishing ratings. With 2.8m overnight for Episode 1 and 2.1m for Episode 2, the numbers are higher than recent Doctor Who episodes, making it one of the BBC’s biggest new drama launches of the year.

ITV Picks Up a Ton of 2026 Box Sets
ITVX continues its surprising reign as one of the UK’s best box-set treasure troves, grabbing:

- Fallen
- Nashville
- Black Sails
…among others. The catalogue grows but the interface still needs divine intervention.
The Billion-Dollar Battle for Warner Bros. Discovery
Dave breaks down the studio-war saga currently gripping Hollywood:
Netflix’s board-approved $82.7 billion offer to acquire Warner Bros. studios, HBO, HBO Max and DC sparked fury from Paramount/Skydance’s Ellison family, who responded with a hostile takeover bid of $108.4 billion for the entire company.
Comcast, meanwhile, took a half-hearted swing, admitted it was light on cash, and wandered off for a sandwich.
This all now comes down to shareholder choice, potential counter-bids… and an upcoming regulatory gauntlet that makes the Death Star look lenient.
Dave also expresses concern about HBO’s prestige programming being thrown into the Netflix algorithm blender. A world where Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or The Chair Company get “28-day engagement targets” is not a world anyone wants.
This story is far from over… and the next few weeks may reshape Hollywood.

BBC and MGM+ officially reveal ‘Legacy of Spies’ starring Matthew Macfadyen, Charlie Hunnam, Daniel Brühl, and Devrim Lingnau. Adapted from John le Carré’s novels and linked to ‘The Spy Who Came In From The Cold’, this Cold War thriller is shaping up to be a prestige gem.
