ABC has renewed ‘High Potential‘ for Season 3, keeping the hit crime drama starring Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) on the case, although the upcoming season will arrive with a notable behind-the-scenes change.
Showrunner Todd Harthan is stepping down from the series after its second season, with ABC now searching for a replacement to take the reins going forward. Harthan is departing to focus on Disney’s live-action adaptation of Eragon, which he is co-creating with author Christopher Paolini and will co-showrun alongside Todd Helbing (Superman & Lois).
The renewal itself isn’t much of a surprise. The procedural has become one of ABC’s top performing dramas, pulling in strong numbers across both linear broadcast and streaming platforms.
Based on the French series HPI, the show follows Morgan Gillory, played by Olson, a single mother with an IQ of 160 who works as a cleaner at the Los Angeles Police Department before her unusual mind catches the attention of detectives. She ends up becoming a consultant for the LAPD’s Major Crimes division, using her unconventional thinking to help crack cases.
Alongside Olson, the series stars Daniel Sunjata (Graceland), Javicia Leslie (Batwoman), Deniz Akdeniz (The Flight Attendant), Amirah J (Shameless), Matthew Lamb (The Alienist), and Judy Reyes (Scrubs).
The show is currently in the latter half of its second season, with Morgan balancing increasingly complex cases alongside the everyday chaos of family life as her children grow up.
According to Harthan, the remaining episodes of Season 2 will also put a larger spotlight on some of the supporting characters. Fans can expect a major episode focusing on Daphne’s life outside the Major Crimes unit, while Captain Wagner will return to the fold in a significant way, leading to “some big twists and turns” for the team.
Created by Drew Goddard (The Good Place) and produced by 20th Television, the drama continues to draw impressive viewership. One recent episode pulled in 12.33 million viewers across ABC and streaming platforms in its first seven days, and the show has averaged around 13.24 million viewers across the early weeks of the year.
‘High Potential‘ Season 2 is currently airing on Disney+ UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.

I would have said Kaitlin Olson (Hacks).
Wonder how many breaks we will have to put up with?
