Apple TV has renewed ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ for a 2nd Season, keeping the wonderfully messy comedy-drama from David E. Kelley, A24, and a frankly ridiculous cast, on the books for more financial chaos.
Based on Rufi Thorpe’s bestselling novel of the same name, the series stars Elle Fanning (The Great) as Margo, a recent college dropout and aspiring writer who suddenly finds herself with a new baby, mounting bills, and not nearly enough legal, conventional, or emotionally sensible ways to pay them. The 1st Season finale lands on Apple TV this May.
The comedy comes from multi-Emmy Award winner David E. Kelley, whose recent work with Apple TV also includes the Emmy-nominated drama ‘Presumed Innocent’, which is currently in production on its 2nd Season. Kelley serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer on ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’, with Eva Anderson set to serve as co-showrunner on Season 2.
“Embarking on the adventure of bringing Margo to the screen has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” said executive producer and star, Elle Fanning. “When I first read Rufi’s stunning story, it felt wholly original and most importantly human, and then with David’s writing, along with our epic cast of heart-wrenching performances, it truly felt like we had something special. Having the opportunity to bring more of Margo’s troubles, creativity, fearless spirit and authenticity to audiences with a second season makes me incredibly happy and excited. I can promise everyone they’re in for a wild, messy and beautiful ride.”
The show follows Margo, the daughter of an ex-Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler, as she tries to build a life with a baby, a pile of bills, and an increasingly creative approach to survival. Alongside Elle Fanning (The Great), the cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer (The First Lady) as Margo’s mother, Nick Offerman (The Last of Us) as her ex-pro wrestler father, and Nicole Kidman (Nine Perfect Strangers), who also executive produces. The ensemble also features Thaddea Graham (Doctor Who), Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show), Greg Kinnear (House of Cards), Michael Angarano (This Is Us), Rico Nasty, and Lindsey Normington (Anora).
“‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ was an irresistible proposition to me from day one,” said creator, executive producer and writer David E. Kelley. “I fell in love with Rufi’s world and unpredictable characters, and it’s been rewarding to see audiences embrace this series. We can’t wait to continue this story with our partners at Apple and A24.”
Since its debut, Apple says the series has been praised by critics as “warm, funny and emotionally precise,” with particular praise for its writing and cast, and has achieved a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Ever since David’s sharp adaptation of Rufi’s novel debuted, audiences have wanted to spend more time with these riveting characters and the brilliant cast behind them, led by Elle, Michelle, Nick and Thaddea,” said Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming. “We’re excited to watch Margo and the entire family continue to defy the odds in season two, in the way only they can, with humor, determination and creativity.”
‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ is produced for Apple TV by A24. Executive producers include Kelley, Elle Fanning (The Great), Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures, Nicole Kidman (Nine Perfect Strangers) and Per Saari of Blossom Films, and Matthew Tinker for David E. Kelley Productions. Michelle Pfeiffer (The First Lady), author Rufi Thorpe, Eva Anderson and Boo Killebrew also executive produce. BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Dearbhla Walsh directs the pilot and serves as an executive producer, with additional Season 1 directors including Kate Herron and Alice Seabright.
‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ Season 1 finale premieres Wednesday, 20th May 2026 on Apple TV. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Apple TV.
