Prime Video has revealed the first cast members for ‘Boys Of Tommen’, the highly anticipated romantic drama based on the bestselling book series by Irish author Chloe Walsh, with four young stars landing key roles in the BookTok phenomenon.
Following a widespread casting search across the UK and Ireland, newcomer Nancy Surridge will take on the role of Shannon Lynch, the shy and mysterious new girl at Tommen College. Conor Sánchez (Mix Tape) will play Johnny Kavanagh, the golden boy of Tommen and star rugby player, while James O’Donoghue (Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale) has been cast as Shannon’s troubled but loyal brother Joey Lynch. Sophie McGibbon, who recently wrapped the upcoming feature film Sense & Sensibility, will play the fiercely confident Aoife Molloy.
The sweeping romantic drama follows the forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, a talented rugby player on the verge of a professional career, and Shannon Lynch, a painfully shy new student at the prestigious Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both are carrying secrets, with Johnny hiding a potentially career-ending injury, while Shannon is dealing with a troubled and violent home life. As their secret and emotionally charged connection deepens, the pair find themselves battling against the odds, and perhaps finding a way to save each other.
The series is based on Walsh’s hugely popular Boys Of Tommen novels, which exploded in popularity on TikTok, Goodreads and Amazon, before becoming a #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon. Season one will adapt the first two books in the series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13.
Irish filmmaker Brendan Canty will direct the series. Canty is known for his work on Hozier’s Take Me to Church music video, along with the award-winning feature Christy, which premiered at the Berlinale 2025 and went on to win the Generation 14plus Grand Prix. Ingrid Goodwin joins the series as producer.
“As someone who grew up in Cork, where these stories are set, this project feels incredibly personal to me. Poppy has done an amazing job adapting Chloe’s beloved books, and the way both writers capture young people’s lives with such empathy, tenderness and honesty feels truly extraordinary to me. To do justice to the world they’ve created, we knew that finding the right cast was going to be everything. We searched far and wide, receiving over 3000 casting suggestions from across the UK and Ireland, but from the moment Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie walked into the room, it was clear we’d found something beyond special. Each of them brings the spirit and emotional depth this story demands, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring Chloe’s world to the screen with this extraordinary young cast.”
Poppy Cogan (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) has adapted the series for television and serves as lead writer and executive producer. Author Chloe Walsh is also onboard as executive producer, which should hopefully reassure fans that the adaptation is in hands that understand quite how attached people are to these characters. And when we say attached, we do mean BookTok-level emotionally invested, which is basically a legally distinct weather system at this point.
“These characters have lived in the hearts and minds of millions of readers, and the response to them has been overwhelming, so finding the right cast was incredibly important. Chloe has created such a rich, emotionally vivid world in these books, and as the writer adapting this story for screen it’s been a privilege to be entrusted with bringing that world to life. I’m thrilled beyond words that we’ve found our Shannon, Johnny, Joey and Aoife in Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie — they are the perfect people to embody these roles. Knowing that everyone behind this production and at Amazon MGM Studios shares my passion for telling this story authentically makes this moment even more special. I cannot wait for the world to see what’s coming.”
The series is produced by global independent studio wiip in association with Amazon MGM Studios, with Metropolitan providing local production services. Executive producers include Poppy Cogan, Chloe Walsh, wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman and Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman and Annika Patten, and Drama Republic’s Greg Brenman and Deena Butt. Carla Stronge serves as casting director.
The adaptation also continues Prime Video’s growing run of book-to-screen romantic dramas, with wiip already behind Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty for the streamer. Given the level of online devotion around Walsh’s books, Prime Video will no doubt be hoping Boys Of Tommen can tap into that same deeply invested audience.
Boys Of Tommen does not yet have a premiere date but will stream exclusively on Prime Video in the UK and worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
