Biggest New & Returning Geek TV Shows To Watch This June

by Dave Elliott

June is looking rather busy for geek-friendly TV fans, with dragons, animated adventurers, superheroes, elemental bending, noir mysteries, psychological horror, and even a Canadian legal drama with some very familiar genre faces all fighting for space on the watchlist.

As usual, this is not an exhaustive list of every show arriving this month, but a pick of the bigger new and returning series likely to be of interest to Geektown readers. So, whether you’re after fantasy carnage, animation, sci-fi weirdness, psychological dread, or just want to see some beloved genre actors in something a little more grounded, June has a little something for everyone. Which is nice. Also inconvenient, if you enjoy sleep.

‘The Legend Of Vox Machina’ Season 4

The Critical Role gang return to Prime Video this June as ‘The Legend Of Vox Machina’ launches its fourth season.

Based on the first campaign from Critical Role, the adult animated fantasy series follows a chaotic group of adventurers who are, somehow, both deeply irresponsible and frequently the only people standing between the world and complete disaster. It is very much Dungeons & Dragons energy, which is to say: noble quests, emotional trauma, questionable planning, and someone absolutely making a terrible decision because it sounded funny at the time.

Season 4 picks up after Vox Machina have gone their separate ways following the defeat of the Chroma Conclave. Unfortunately for them, this is fantasy television, so peace and quiet are mostly there to be dramatically interrupted by a long-slumbering evil, forcing the group back together once again.

The Legend Of Vox Machina’ Season 4 premieres Wednesday, 3rd June 2026 on Prime Video.

‘Cape Fear’ Season 1

Apple TV gets into psychological horror thriller territory this June with ‘Cape Fear’, a new limited series based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, and the famous 1962 and 1991 film adaptations.

This new version stars Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story) as Max Cady, an ex-con who is released from prison and sets his sights on the married attorneys he believes were responsible for putting him there. Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) and Patrick Wilson (Fargo) play the couple caught in his crosshairs, with CCH Pounder (The Shield) also among the cast.

Behind the scenes, the series has some serious pedigree too, with Nick Antosca (Brand New Cherry Flavor) creating and showrunning, while Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are among the executive producers. Which, frankly, is not a bad pair of names to have lurking in the credits.

Cape Fear’ Season 1 premieres Friday, 5th June 2026 on Apple TV.

‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 3

For those wanting something a little brighter, ‘My Adventures With Superman’ returns this June with its third season on HBO Max in the UK.

The animated series has been a rather lovely take on Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, leaning into the optimism, romance and earnest superhero adventure that sometimes gets lost when Superman adaptations become very concerned with being “serious”. Yes, he is an alien god who can punch tanks, but he is also a nice man trying to do the right thing. Radical concept, apparently.

Season 3 brings Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane back in animated form, as the trio continue juggling Daily Planet life, alien threats, superhero chaos, and the small matter of Clark trying to keep his secret identity vaguely secret. Which, given Lois Lane is a very good journalist, was always going to be a bit of a problem.

My Adventures With Superman’ Season 3 premieres Sunday, 14th June 2026 on HBO Max in the UK.

‘Sugar’ Season 2

Apple TV’s stylish detective drama ‘Sugar’ returns this month, with Colin Farrell (The Penguin) back as private investigator John Sugar.

The first season began as a slick Los Angeles noir mystery before taking one of the more unexpected genre swings of recent years, so Season 2 should be very much on the radar for anyone who likes their detective stories with a side order of “wait, what exactly is going on here?”

This time around, Sugar investigates the disappearance of a boxer’s older brother, while also continuing the search for his own missing sister. Joining the cast for Season 2 are Jin Ha (Pachinko), Raymond Lee (Quantum Leap), Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul), Laura Donnelly (The Nevers), Sasha Calle (The Flash) and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire).

Sugar’ Season 2 premieres Friday, 19th June 2026 on Apple TV.

‘Family Law’ Season 1

This one sits more in the “geek-adjacent because of the cast” corner, but ‘Family Law’ arrives on ITVX this June, and it does feature a couple of very familiar faces for genre fans.

The Canadian legal drama stars Jewel Staite (Firefly) as Abigail Bianchi, a recovering alcoholic and lawyer who is forced to work at her estranged father’s family law firm after a very public professional meltdown. That father is played by Victor Garber (The Flash), which means this is a legal drama fronted by Kaylee from Firefly and Martin Stein from the Arrowverse. That is probably enough to make a few Geektown readers at least raise an interested eyebrow.

The series follows Abigail as she attempts to rebuild her career, navigate complicated family relationships, and deal with clients whose legal issues are rarely just legal issues. It is not dragons, aliens or multiverse chaos, but with that cast, it earns a place on the radar.

Family Law’ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 21st June 2026 on ITVX.

‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3

Things get considerably more flammable this June as ‘House Of The Dragon’ returns for Season 3.

The Game Of Thrones prequel continues the increasingly messy Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, which is basically what happens when one family has too much power, too many grudges, and access to flying nuclear lizards.

Season 3 is expected to push the conflict into even bloodier territory, with both sides now far beyond the point where anyone sensible can suggest a peaceful compromise without immediately being ignored, murdered, or both.

Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers) returns as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, alongside Olivia Cooke (Slow Horses) as Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Daemon Targaryen, Fabien Frankel (The Serpent) as Ser Criston Cole, and Ewan Mitchell (The Last Kingdom) as Aemond Targaryen.

House Of The Dragon’ Season 3 premieres Monday, 22nd June 2026 on HBO Max in the UK.

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 2

Netflix’s live-action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ returns for its second season this June, continuing Aang’s journey as the war against the Fire Nation intensifies.

Season 2 moves the story into the Earth Kingdom, which also means the arrival of Toph, one of the most beloved characters from the original animated series. No pressure there, Netflix. Absolutely none. Just one of the most popular characters in one of the most beloved animated shows of the last few decades. Easy.

Gordon Cormier (The Stand) returns as Aang, alongside Kiawentiio (Anne with an E) as Katara, Ian Ousley (13 Reasons Why) as Sokka, and Dallas Liu (PEN15) as Prince Zuko. New cast includes Miya Cech (Beef) as Toph.

Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 25th June 2026 on Netflix.

Also continuing this month: ‘Rick And Morty’ Season 9

Although it technically kicked off at the end of May, ‘Rick And Morty’ Season 9 continues through June, so it is worth a quick mention for anyone looking for weekly animated sci-fi chaos.

The latest season continues the show’s usual blend of multiverse weirdness, existential dread, and jokes that occasionally make you question whether laughing was the correct response. Adult Swim has already renewed the series through Season 12, so Rick and Morty are not vanishing into a portal any time soon.

Rick And Morty’ Season 9 continues weekly through June on HBO Max in the UK.

So, yes, June is not exactly quiet. Between Westeros going up in flames, Aang heading deeper into the Earth Kingdom, Vox Machina being Vox Machina, Superman trying to keep Metropolis in one piece, John Sugar still digging into mysteries with a very strange edge, and Jewel Staite swapping spaceships for family court, there should be more than enough to keep genre fans occupied.
