‘Crookhaven’ Officially Renewed For Series 2 Following BBC iPlayer Success

by Dave Elliott

The doors of Crookhaven are officially reopening, as the BBC confirms the hit family drama has been renewed for a second series following a strong performance with young viewers and families.

The renewal is not entirely a surprise, as reports had previously suggested a second series was already in the works ahead of the show’s launch. However, the BBC has now officially confirmed the return, with filming due to begin in Northern Ireland this summer ahead of a planned 2027 premiere.

Based on the globally bestselling books by JJ Arcanjo, ‘Crookhaven’ takes the traditional school drama and gives it a crooked twist. The story follows pickpocketing genius Gabriel, played by Lucas Leach, who finds himself enrolled at a secret school where talented young criminals are taught to use their somewhat questionable skills for good.

Series 2 will see the Crooklings enter their Miscreant, or second, year at the school. Gabriel’s complicated friendship with Penelope, played by Carmel Laniado (The Witcher), daughter of headmaster Caspian Lockett, played by Dougray Scott (Crime, Batwoman), remains at the heart of the story as the students face a new term filled with dangerous secrets, shifting alliances and shocking betrayal.

The eight-part first series premiered in March 2026 and has become the highest-performing CBBC show on BBC iPlayer this year so far. It is also the highest-performing drama on BBC iPlayer among audiences aged 7 to 12.

The show reached an average audience of 653,000 viewers after 28 days, while 43% of viewers under 16 watched alongside an adult. It has also clocked up 14.6 million video views across social media during 2026.

“I’m delighted to be returning to Crookhaven and stepping back into the role of the Caspian Lockett. I’m looking forward to working with the talented cast and creative team once again, and to bringing audiences another exciting chapter of this wonderful, mysterious world,” said Scott.

Leach added: “I’m really happy to be returning back to Crookhaven for series two with this great team! The story is only getting better and we’re all so excited to step back into our characters, because as always, nothing at Crookhaven is ever as it seems to be.”

Sarah Muller, Senior Head of BBC Children’s Commissioning 7+, commented: “Crookhaven struck a real chord with audiences through its originality, ambition and brilliantly twisty storytelling. Original stories and characters sit at the heart of everything we do, and this series delivers that in abundance, with a world that feels distinctive, inclusive and full of intrigue. Bringing it back for a second series allows us to go even deeper into this rich, morally complex story and raise the stakes for the students of Crookhaven as they return for another unpredictable year.”

‘Crookhaven’ was created for television by Justin Young (Death in Paradise, Sanditon, Dickensian, Ripper Street) and is produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Jamie Magnus Stone and Aislinn Clarke will direct the new series, with Leon McGeown-Fee producing.

Crookhaven’ Series 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2027 on the BBC. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
