One of television’s strangest and smartest sitcom experiments is getting a much more accessible UK home, as ITV has acquired AMC’s ‘Kevin Can F**k Himself‘, with both seasons streaming for free on ITVX this September.
Starring Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek), the wonderfully odd dark comedy takes the familiar world of the traditional multi-camera family sitcom and asks a fairly important question: what does life look like when the put-upon sitcom wife walks out of the brightly lit living room set?
Murphy plays Allison McRoberts, the archetypal Sitcom Wife. She’s attractive, endlessly tolerant, regularly the butt of the joke, and married to Kevin, the sort of loud, immature man-child who would usually be positioned as the lovable centre of his own network comedy.
However, when Allison steps away from Kevin, ‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’ completely changes with her. The bright multi-camera sitcom presentation gives way to darker single-camera realism, revealing a woman increasingly furious about the life she has found herself trapped in, and increasingly determined to do something about it.
It is such a bizarre concept on paper, but it works remarkably well. The switch between the two styles isn’t just a visual gimmick either. It completely changes how you view the characters, particularly all those familiar sitcom behaviours which seem amusing when accompanied by studio lighting and a laugh track, but considerably less funny when seen from Allison’s perspective.
Alongside Murphy, the series stars Mary Hollis Inboden (The Real O’Neals) as Allison’s neighbour Patty O’Connor, whose intelligence and dissatisfaction help forge an unlikely bond between the pair. Eric Petersen (Kirstie) plays Allison’s husband Kevin McRoberts, whilst Alex Bonifer (Superstore) stars as Kevin’s dim-witted best friend Neil O’Connor.
The cast also includes Brian Howe (Chicago Fire) as Kevin’s father Pete McRoberts, and Raymond Lee (Here and Now) as Sam Park, a former Worcester resident who has some history with Allison.
The series was created by Valerie Armstrong (Lodge 49, SEAL Team), with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack executive producing through Le Train Train. Craig DiGregorio (Shrill) serves as showrunner and executive producer.
For UK viewers, this isn’t technically the premiere of ‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’. Season 1 previously streamed on Prime Video, whilst Season 2 did make it across the Atlantic via AMC Global. However, that channel was tucked away in a rather bizarre arrangement involving BT Sport, meaning it was something a lot of people could very easily have missed.
That makes the ITVX acquisition particularly welcome. This will be the first time UK viewers have been able to easily find both seasons together on one mainstream streaming service, and, even better, watch them for free.
‘Kevin Can F**k Himself‘ Seasons 1 and 2 premiere Sunday, 13th September 2026 on ITVX.
