Ancient Greece has just got a lot more dysfunctional, as ‘Krapopolis‘ has made its UK debut on BBC iPlayer, with Season 1 of the adult animated comedy available to stream now.
Created by Dan Harmon, co-creator of ‘Rick and Morty’, ‘Krapopolis’ is set in mythical ancient Greece and follows a deeply dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters attempting to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other in the process.
Their grand plan is to guide humanity out of the savage wilderness and into a revolutionary new lifestyle experiment called civilization. Unfortunately, trying to invent society is somewhat complicated when your family includes gods and monsters who are just as likely to cause the problems as solve them.
The series comes with a pretty spectacular voice cast, led by Emmy Award-winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso, Game of Thrones), alongside Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) and Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel).
For UK viewers, the BBC is starting at the beginning with Season 1, although the animated comedy is already considerably further along across the pond. ‘Krapopolis’ has aired three seasons on FOX in the US, with Season 4 due to arrive in early 2027. FOX clearly has plenty of faith in Dan Harmon’s ancient Greek family, as the series has already been renewed through Season 5.
This marks the first time ‘Krapopolis’ has officially been available to watch in the UK, following the BBC’s acquisition of the series from FOX Entertainment Global. The broadcaster has also made the opening episode available on YouTube, should you fancy sampling the dysfunctional ancient Greek chaos before diving into iPlayer.
And ‘Krapopolis’ isn’t arriving alone. The BBC has also picked up a trio of other animated shows, with ‘Adventure Time’, ‘Regular Show’ and ‘Ten Year Old Tom’ joining BBC iPlayer alongside it.
