‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 Coming In First Half Of 2027 With Familiar-Face “Surprises” Teased

HBO has narrowed down when ‘The White Lotus‘ will be checking guests back in, with network boss Casey Bloys confirming Season 4 will arrive in the first half of 2027, while also teasing a few potentially familiar faces along the way.

Speaking to Deadline following the Emmys, Bloys was asked exactly when creator Mike White’s hugely successful anthology would return. His answer was pleasingly direct:

“First half of ’27.”

Bloys went on to praise White and what he has put together for the new season, saying:

“Mike is the best, I love working with him, and I can’t wait for you to see what he’s been working on with this cast. There are always breakout characters, breakout stories. We are lucky to have Mike doing White Lotus for us.”

However, things got a little more interesting when Deadline asked whether there might be any surprises, specifically people from previous seasons returning. Bloys replied:

“There were a few nice surprises.”

That’s obviously not a name, and Bloys stopped well short of confirming exactly who might be checking back into ‘The White Lotus’. However, the series does have form for bringing characters back.

Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie, The Watcher) appeared as Tanya McQuoid across the first two seasons, while Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite, Dream Corp LLC) has appeared throughout the series as Greg. Natasha Rothwell (Insecure, Sonic the Hedgehog) also returned as Belinda in Season 3 after originally appearing in the Hawaii-set first season.

So there are certainly plenty of possibilities, although “a few nice surprises” could cover anything from major returning characters to smaller appearances. For now, Mike White and HBO are keeping that particular guest list firmly under wraps.

Season 4 moves the action to France, with the story unfolding along the Côte d’Azur during the Cannes Film Festival. Production has been filming across Cannes, St. Tropez and Monaco, along with some scenes in Paris, although the main story remains on the French Riviera.

Sky has also revealed a little more about what White is playing with thematically this time around. Season 4 will tackle fame and the concept of celebrity, which seems particularly appropriate when you decide to drop a group of wealthy White Lotus guests into the middle of the Cannes Film Festival.

There’s another change this season too, as for the first time the series will feature two White Lotus hotels. The Airelles Château de la Messardière, a 19th-century estate near Saint-Tropez, becomes the White Lotus du Cap, while Cannes’ Hôtel Martinez on the Croisette serves as the White Lotus Cannes.

As usual, White has assembled a sizeable collection of famous faces to fill those hotels. The Season 4 cast includes Laura Dern (Big Little Lies, Marriage Story), Vincent Cassel (Westworld, Black Swan), Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge, Night at the Museum), Chris Messina (Based on a True Story, Sharp Objects), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, Silicon Valley), Sir Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast, Gandhi), Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale, Industry), Rosie Perez (Your Honor, The Flight Attendant), Sandra Bernhard (American Horror Story, Pose), Max Greenfield (New Girl, Promising Young Woman) and Chloe Bennet (Agents of SHIELD, Nashville), amongst many others.

There was also a notable casting change shortly after production began. Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, Harry Potter) had originally been announced for Season 4, but departed after filming got underway when it became apparent that the character Mike White had created for her was not working as intended once they reached the set.

HBO said at the time that the role would be rethought and rewritten. A few days later, Laura Dern (Big Little Lies, Marriage Story) joined the cast. However, rather than simply taking over Bonham Carter’s original character, White developed and wrote a new character specifically for Dern.

Deadline raised the change with Bloys during the interview, although he neatly sidestepped giving any further detail, instead focusing on his enthusiasm for White and the new cast.

For UK viewers, there is also some welcome clarity about where ‘The White Lotus’ will live now that HBO Max has launched over here.

Sky’s expanded deal with Warner Bros. Discovery means returning HBO franchises which already had a home on Sky, including ‘The White Lotus’, ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘The Last of Us’, continue to air on Sky Atlantic. Sky’s Season 4 page specifically says the new season is “Coming soon to Sky and NOW.”

HBO Max launched in the UK in March 2026, with eligible Sky and NOW customers also receiving access as part of their subscriptions. Sky currently lists ‘The White Lotus’ as available across Sky Atlantic and HBO Max, so Season 4 is also expected to be available through HBO Max UK alongside its continued Sky Atlantic and NOW presence.

Between the French Riviera setting, the madness of Cannes, two luxury hotels, a story playing with fame and celebrity, a huge ensemble and the possibility of some returning faces, Mike White certainly has plenty of toys to play with when those hotel doors open again.

‘The White Lotus‘ Season 4 premieres in the first half of 2027 on HBO and HBO Max in the US, with Sky Atlantic and NOW confirmed to carry the season in the UK.
