REVIEW: Earbud headphones that actually stay in the ear!

I got a big parcel through the post last week. Not having ordered anything, i was kinda curious as to what it was, only to open it up to find… A severed ear!.. Well okay… a plastic severed ear with some earbud headphones wrapped around them. Now, i loath earbud headphones, for the over-riding reason that they never stay in your flippin ears!
However, these headphones (from Coosh), are your standard earbud with the added extra of a soft bit made out of a rubbery type material that wraps around the ear. Extra bits that hook over your ears aren’t a new invention, but all the previous versions i’ve tried do tend to really hurt after a while, but the material the Coosh headphone straps are made from didn’t seem to have that issue.
I have to say, i’m rather impressed. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they stay in place pretty much whatever you do. I passed them round the office to a few people, and despite some rampant headbanging antics, they weren’t budging. The sound quality is pretty good, and the price is affordable too (starting at $19.99).
Don’t take my word for it about them staying in place, they’ve got a bunch of vids on youtube showing off people breakdancing whilst wearing them!

Harvey Keitel Life on Mars US Clip
Yeh, i know i’m a bit late to the party with this clip. First full clip of Harvey Keitel as Gene Hunt in the US remake of Life on Mars. There has been a lot of discussion over ‘why remake it, the original was brilliant’. That’s very true. It is brilliant. But then, that’s not their reason for remaking it. It’s not because they think the original was bad. In fact, as with The Office, i rather suspect it’s the total opposite. It’s the fact that the original was so good, that drove them to remaking it for a US audience.
The one thing that works against LoM when selling it abroad is its very very British! Of course, for me, that is one of the great things about it, but i can see how something like episode 5 of series 1, which was about football hooligans, being hard to relate to a US audience. British and US New York policing in the 70s were worlds apart after all. I’m not expecting the US version to be better or worse necessarily. Just different.
Now, of course that doesn’t mean the US version will be any good… It maybe rubbish (and had they stuck with the 1st pilot, i’m fairly sure it would have been). I’m prepared to give it a shot and see what the 2nd pilot is like before condemning it though. Harvey might not be entertaining as Phil’s version of the Gene genie. I somehow can’t see “this investigation is going at the speed of a spastic in a magnet factory” getting passed a mainstream US censor! However, i do think Harvey pulls off the menace pretty well (he is Harvey Keitel after all!), and he’s certainly got a 70s US cop feel about him, and that was rather the point of remaking it in the first place!
DON’T PANIC, Hitchhiker’s Gets a New Author.
They did it with Bond, and now Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is getting a new author.
16 years after the last novel, Jane Belson, Douglas Adam’s widow, has commisioned Eoin Colfer to continue the adventures of Arthur Dent in a new Hitchiker’s book entitled ‘And Another Thing…’
Eoin Colfer is best known for the best-selling Artemis Fowl novels. I’m not totally sure if i agree with the idea of not Adam’s written Hitchhiker’s. I don’t envy the task Mr. Colfer has set himself. I can imagine the fan backlash on this being huge if he gets it wrong (or even just for attempting to write it in the first place)… We shall have to wait and see.
PLAYSTATION 3 – PlayTV
This is kinda cool. Lets you Watch. Pause & Record digital TV on your PS3. It even will throw it to your PSP if you have one.
Spore’s DRM 1 Starred

*sigh* EA… EA… EA… When will you learn… Look, i’m not a DRM hating nutjob. I understand you want to protect your licenses. However, putting a DRM system on the disc that only allow 3 installs… PERIOD, is dumber than a crash test dummy sucking a baby pacifier. Say I have a laptop and desktop. Well, that’s 2 installs. Swap the graphics card or memory out, and that uses another install, and then what?! Ring you, or buy another copy apparently! Clearly, someone in EA has been on the stupid pills with a handful of idiot tablets to go with it.
What did you think would happen when you tried this? Honestly? What?.. Cause i’m kinda struggling to see what you thought you were going to achieve. What you did acheive of course is getting your game 1 starred on Amazon.com by a multitude of angry fans.
There where also a number of similar reviews on amazon.co.uk before they wussed out (presumably after pressure from ‘somewhEre’, And pulled them. There’s now only 1 review with a 5 out of 5 rating… The Customer Discussions however is still up if you want to go nuts!
Buffy The Vampire MMORPG?
Some interesting news for Whedon fans over at massively.com… Multiverse announced at the Virtual Worlds Conference in Los Angeles that they are developing a Buffy the Vampire Slayer MMORPG!
Multiverse were also developing a Firefly MMO, however that’s been delayed…
Given Multiverse have had the Firefly MMO license for around 2 years, and it’s gone nowhere, i don’t hold out a lot of hope for Buffy sadly. It also looks like both are licensed from Fox, and not Mutant Enemy, and anything involving Fox fills me with a sense of foreboding.
A Buffy MMO would be cool, but i still think a Firefly MMO would be cooler, and has more scope for an MMO.
