Netflix Cancels ‘Sense8’ After 2 Seasons

Netflix has decided to end Sense8 after 2 Seasons the streaming service announced today.

Created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski with J. Michael Straczynski, the show followed 8 disparate people who are telepathically linked, enabling them to come together, physically and mentally, as they are plunged into the middle of each other’s tragedies and triumphs. The main cast included Toby Onwumere (Capheus), Tina Desai (Kala), Miguel Angel Silvestre (Lito), Jamie Clayton (Nomi), Tuppence Middleton (Riley) , Donna Bae (Sun), Brian J. Smith (Will) and Max Riemelt (Wolfgang).

A statement from Netflix VP Original Content, Cindy Holland, said  “After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

The show joins a pretty exclusive club of Netflix original commissions which have been cancelled. So far only Marco Polo, Hemlock Grove, Bloodline and most recently, The Get Down, have failed to get renewed more than a couple of seasons by the streaming giant.

Both seasons of Sense8 can be found on Netflix UK.

Literally just finished season 2 – that can’t be the end! There was so much more that could have been done with this. One of the most powerful tv shows I have ever seen.

Hemlock Grove and Bloodline each had 3 seasons. I haven’t seen either, but I believe their third seasons were commissioned as final runs to complete their stories. No such luck for Sense8.
