Michael J. Fox Joins ‘Designated Survivor’ For 5 Episode Arc

As if you needed another reason to watch Designated Survivor, ABC has announced Michael J. Fox will be joining the show for a 5 episode arc!

The series stars Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President of the United States after a catastrophic attack on the US Capitol during the State of the Union.

Fox will play Ethan West, a high-flying, well connected, Washington attorney, who is hired by the President’s Cabinet as special prosecutor to investigate an alleged leak of classified information by former President Cornelius Moss (Geoff Pierson). He’s described as “hyper-competitive, wily, relentless lawyer who plays his cards close to the vest and whose only allegiance is to his mandate – a single-mindedness that makes him an unpredictable and formidable adversary for President Kirkman.”

This isn’t Fox’s first time dabbling in politics on tv. He played Deputy Mayor of NYC on the sitcom ‘Spin City’ back in the late 90s, before having to give up the role when he was initially diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. More recently, he received 3 Emmy nominations for his roles as attorney Louis Canning on ‘The Good Wife’, and has popped up in various guest spots across US tv. He is, of course, best known for his part as Marty McFly in the ‘Back To The Future’ movies.

Michael J. Fox isn’t the only new edition this season. As we announced a few weeks ago, Breckin Meyer (‘Franklin & Bash’, ‘Garfield’) has been cast as Trey Kirkman, the rather more free-spirited younger brother of the President.

Designated Survivor‘ returns on Netflix UK, weekly, from Thursday, 1st March 2018.
