NBC Cancels ‘Midnight, Texas’ & Sitcom ‘Marlon’

Darkness closes in on Midnight, Texas, as US network NBC decides to cancel the series after 2 seasons. They also brought down the cancellation axe on the sitcom Marlon.

Based on the book series from ‘True Blood’ author Charlaine Harris, ‘Midnight, Texas’ is set in a remote Texas town where no one is who they seem. From vampires and witches to psychics and hit men, Midnight is a mysterious safe haven for those who are different. As the town members fight off outside pressures from rowdy biker gangs, ever-suspicious cops and their own dangerous pasts, they band together and form a strong and unlikely family.

The series starred François Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Jason Lewis and Peter Mensah.

‘Marlon’ was loosely inspired by the real life of star Marlon Wayans (‘In Living Color’, ‘Scary Movie’), and centred on a loving (but immature) father committed to co-parenting his two kids with his very-together ex-wife. While his misguided fatherly advice, unstoppable larger-than-life personality and unpredictable Internet superstardom might get in the way sometimes, for Marlon, family really always does come first – even if he’s the biggest kid of all.

Along with Wayans, the show starred Essence Atkins, Bresha Webb, Diallo Riddle, Notlim Taylor and Amir O’Neil.

In the case of both show, it really came down to ratings, which had been pretty woeful for their 2nd seasons compare to their debuts. The change in showrunners and alterations to the cast for ‘Midnight, Texas’ Season 2 probably didn’t help things either.

Midnight, Texas‘ aired on Syfy in the UK, and ‘Marlon‘ streamed on Netflix this side of the Atlantic.
