‘Ray Donovan’ Cancelled By Showtime After 7 Seasons

There are somethings that even Ray Donovan can’t fix, one of those being convincing Showtime to give them a new season, as the network opt not to bring the drama back for Season 8…

The series starred Liev Schreiber as celebrity fixer Ray Donovan – the go-to guy who makes the problems of celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear. Whilst he started in LA, the last couple of seasons saw some big changes, as Ray moved cross country to New York… Not that switch really helped him escape his personal troubles or his family problems.

Showtime released a statement saying:

“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime. We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”

This is a surprising move for Showtime, and a stab in the eye for fans and the showrunners, giving that the 7th Season ended on a bit of a cliffhanger… Whilst it was generally thought the show was coming to an end, once you get to 7 Seasons, it would seem only fair to give the team some way of rounding off the story, either with a final season or some sort of tv movie. Showtime, however, has opted just to pull the plug entirely…

Given ‘Ray Donovan’ has landed armfuls of award nominations over its 7 Seasons, along with picking up a Golden Globe for Jon Voight, an Emmy for guest star Hank Azaria, and a Critics’ Choice Award for the show overall, it seems like a shabby way to treat a critically acclaimed series. But then, there is a reason they call it showbusiness

Ray Donovan‘ was produced by The Mark Gordon Company, Ann Bidderman Company, Bider Sweet Productions, David Hollander Productions and Showtime Networks. The series ran on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
