Arrowverse Adds Jordan Elsass & Alexander Garfin ‘Superman & Lois’ Cast

CW’s Arrowverse has added a couple of young faces to the cast of the upcoming ‘Superman & Lois’, as it is announced Jordan Elsass & Alexander Garfin will join the cast. As to who they are playing… well, that takes some explaining and is a little bit spoilery for Crisis, so read on at your own peril…

Still here? Okay then! (WARNING SPOILERS BELOW!)

If you remember when we last saw Lois and Clark, they had taken a sabbatical from Earth to visit Argo City, leaving Kara to keep watch over the planet. It was also revealed that Lois was pregnant. By the time we get to Crisis on Infinite Earths, Lois had given birth to a little boy, Jon. However, the events of Crisis rather messed with the timelines, so now it appears, not only do Lois and Clark have two boys, not one, but they are also teenagers!

Jordan Elsass is set to play Jonathan, described as a clean-cut, modest and kind-hearted kid, with an aw-shucks attitude that somehow doesn’t seem dated. Alexander Garfin plays his brother Jordan. He is wildly intelligent, but his mercurial temperament and social anxiety limits his interactions with people, and consequently, Jordan prefers to spend most of his free time alone, playing video games.

This is quite a departure from the comic book canon. In print, the Lois and Clark do have a son, Jon, but Jordan seems to be a new invention for the Arrowverse. In the majority of the books, Jon has been around 10yrs old, however, the recent ‘Unity Saga’ plotline saw him aged up to becoming a 17yr old teen.

Elsass has been acting since the age of 4, and has popped up in various tv and film roles. He can next be seen in the Hulu series ‘Little Fires Everywhere’, opposite Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, playing Witherspoon’s eldest son and the love interest to Washington’s daughter (Lexi Underwood). Garfin began acting at 3yrs old, and voiced Linus in the 2015 film ‘The Peanuts Movie’ which landed him an Annie Award nomination. He also popped up in ‘Law & Order: SVU’, and voiced the character of Stripes in ‘Whisker Haven Tales with the Palace Pets’.

In addition to the casting announcement, some other character descriptions have appeared online. I would like to stress, I don’t know how accurate these are, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it does make for interesting reading if it turns out to be correct.

According to reports, Lois is still a Daily Planet reporter, but Clark has been laid off in cutbacks at the paper. Clark’s father, Jonathan Kent, has passed on, but his mother, Martha, is still alive and living on the Kent farm. The teen kids, Jon and Jordan, are supposed to be 13yrs old. They don’t know about their father is Superman, and may or may not have inherited his powers.

Other characters include General Samuel “Sam” Lane (Glenn Morshower previously played Sam on Supergirl) who knows about Clark and that he is Superman. Lana Lang is also apparently in the show, working as a banker in Smallville and married to firefighter Kyle Cushing, with two daughters – 14yr old Sarah, and 8yr old Sophie. However, things are not all rosy for the family. Kyle is a drunk and Sarah tried to take her own life a year ago… The villain for the opening episode is only known as “The Stranger” but his real identity is revealed ar the end of the opening episode.

As I said, I have no idea if that description is accurate or not, but it does seem to point to the show being somewhat darker in places than we maybe expected. The official CW description of the drama sees “Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their Arrowverse roles as the man of steel and his intrepid reporter wife. The series, which comes from ‘The Flash’ EP Todd Helbing and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti, revolves around the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.”

Superman & Lois will air on The CW in the US. Obviously the show doesn’t yet have UK broadcasters (although I do hope Sky One is quicker off the mark with the Arrowverse series this time than they were with Batwoman…) We’ll let you know when we hear more.
