Gina Torres Lands Leading Role In ABC’s Dracula Pilot ‘The Brides’

She’s been a lawyer, the kick-ass first mate of a space ship, and now a vampire, as Gina Torres takes one of the leading roles in ABC’s Dracula “reimagining” pilot, ‘The Brides’, from the people behind ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and ‘Riverdale’.

The series is a contemporary reimagining of Dracula tale, described as “a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy, and their non-traditional family”. Whilst the focus will be on the three woman, Dracula will feature in the show.

Torres is set to play Cleo Phillips, leader of the three Brides of Dracula. She is an imperious woman with a queenly manner, which is understandable, as she was a queen in her former life who was turned by Dracula after the death of her husband. Now a maven of New York City real estate, Cleo is challenged professionally by a mysterious newcomer, even as her ties to her sisters are dangerously fraying.

Until recently, Gina Torres has been playing Jessica Pearson in legal drama ‘Suits’ and the short-lived spin-off series ‘Pearson’, although she is also fondling remembered for her role as Zoe in our beloved ‘Firefly’. She has also popped up in ‘Hannibal’, ‘Revenge’, ‘The Catch’ and ‘Westworld’, along with voicing Ketsu Onyo in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’.

‘The Brides’ is written and developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’, ‘Riverdale’, ‘Katy Keene’), with Maggie Kiley (‘Dirty John’, ‘Katy Keene’, ‘Riverdale’) set to direct the pilot. Aguirre-Sacasa and Kiley exec produce alongside ‘Arrowverse’s Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions, who produce the potential series. Warner Bros. Television and ABC Studios also produce.

‘The Brides’ is only a pilot right now, but we should know by May 2020 if it’ll move forward. We’ll let you know if/when we hear more.
