‘Sex Education’ Season 3 Says Hello To Jason Isaacs, Jemima Kirke & Dua Saleh

Sex Education recently returned to film Season 3, and has added some new faces to the cast, including Jason Isaacs, Jemima Kirke & Dua Saleh it has been announced.

The series follows Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), a socially awkward high school student who lives with his sex therapist mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson). Season 1 saw Otis and his friend Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) set-up a sex clinic at school to capitalise on his intuitive talent for sex advice. Season 2, followed Otis as he tries to master his newly discovered sexual urges in order to progress with his girlfriend Ola whilst also dealing with his now strained relationship with Maeve. Moordale Secondary also found itself in the throes of a chlamydia outbreak, highlighting the need for better sex education at the school, and new kids came to town which challenged the status quo.

Jason Isaacs is set to play “Peter Groff”, Mr Groff’s (Alistair Petrie) more successful and not very modest older brother, who Mr Groff has been staying with in the wake of his separation from Mrs Groff.

Jason is the beloved actor who starred in movies such as the ‘Harry Potter’ films, Armando Iannucci’s ‘The Death of Stalin’ and ‘Blackhawk Down’, amongst many, many, others! On TV he appeared in NBC’s ‘Awake’, ‘Brotherhood’ for Showtime and Netflix’s ‘The OA’. He also, of course, played the memorable Captain Lorca in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’.

Jemima Kirke will portray former Moordale student and new headmistress “Hope” who plans to turn Moordale back into the pillar of excellence it’s always been.

British-born Jemima is best known for her role as “Jessa” on HBO’s critically acclaimed series, ‘Girls’, starring opposite Lena Dunham, and will next star in Amazon Studios drama ‘Sylvie’s Love’ alongside Tessa Thompson. She recently appeared in the Netflix original ‘Maniac’, along with the films ‘Untogether’, opposite Jamie Dornan and ‘All These Small Moments’ opposite Molly Ringwald, which both premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival.

Gender nonconforming recording artist and songwriter, Dua Saleh also joins in their acting debut, playing “Cal”, a nonbinary student at Moordale, who instantly clashes with Hope’s new vision for the school.

Dua is a Minneapolis-based Sudanese-American artist whose artful blend of poetry, alternative rap, and moody electronic music prompted heavy industry buzz with their debut N?r EP at the beginning of 2019. With a distinctive vocal style wavering between warm melodic singing and nuanced rap grit, their first EP for the Against Giants label earned critical acclaim, setting the table for their highly anticipated 2020 follow-up, Rosetta Ep. This will be their debut acting role.

The trio will join the existing cast of Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game, Hugo), Gillian Anderson (The Crown, The Fall), Emma Mackey (The Winter Lake, Eiffel, Death on the Nile), Ncuti Gatwa (Stonemouth, The Last Letter From My Lover), Connor Swindells (The Vanishing, VS), Aimee-Lou Wood (Louis Wane), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Will, Roots, Wolfblood), Chaneil Kular (Informer), Simone Ashley (Broadchurch), Mimi Keene (Tolkien, Close), Tanya Reynolds (Emma, Delicious), Mikael Persbrandt (Invisible Heroes, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Hobbit, King Arthur), Patricia Allison (Les Miserables, Moving On), Sami Outalball (Grown Ups), Anne-Marie Duff (His Dark Materials), George Robinson, Chinenye Ezeudu (The Stranger) and Alistair Petrie (Deep State, Rogue One, Night Manager).

The series is written and created by Laurie Nunn and produced by Eleven. Season 3 is directed by Ben Taylor and Runyararo Mapfumo. Laurie Nunn, Ben Taylor and Jamie Campbell are also Executive Producers on the series.

Production on Sex Education‘ Season 3 commenced in Wales earlier this month, having been delayed due to the pandemic. The series would usually premiere in January on Netflix, however, that may have shifted due to the late start in filming. All we know at the moment is it will premiere in 2021, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
