Peacock Picks Up Dan Brown’s ‘Langdon’ To Series

US streaming service Peacock has given a series order to ‘Langdon based on the internationally bestselling novel ‘The Lost Symbol’ from author Dan Brown.

The series follows the early adventures of famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who must solve a series of deadly puzzles to save his kidnapped mentor and thwart a chilling global conspiracy. The drama was originally developed for NBC, but has since been moved over to their streaming service instead.

Ashley Zukerman (‘Succession’) takes the title role alongside Valorie Curry (‘Blair Witch’), Sumalee Montano (’10 Cloverfield Lane’), Rick Gonzalez (‘Arrow’), Eddie Izzard (‘Ocean’s Thirteen’) and Beau Knapp (‘Seven Seconds’).

“The team was blown away by this pilot and its enormous potential to become a big, binge-worthy hit, and our new structure enables us to move it to Peacock and give it every opportunity to make that happen,” commented Susan Rovner, Chairman, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Our ability to pick up a great show is no longer limited by the confines of a network schedule, giving us the freedom to say ‘yes’ to shows we love and then find them the perfect home across our portfolio.”

The drama will use the 2009 novel ‘The Lost Symbol’ as the basis for the plot, which may have fans of the books a bit confused, as this is a prequel featuring a young Robert Langdon, whereas the novel is set after the events of the previous books in the series. In a similar move to what Amazon did with ‘Alex Rider’, the series will use the plot of the novel, but it will alter the timeframe to earlier in Langdon’s life.

‘Langdon’ comes from Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie, co-creators of the ‘Scream’ tv-series and short-lived drama ‘The Crossing’. Dworkin and Beattie exec produce alongside Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, who were behind the Tom Hank’s led ‘Da Vinci Code’ movie franchise, via their Imagine Television Studios, with Samie Kim Falvey and Anna Culp. CBS TV Studios and Universal Television co-produce the series.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Ron and Brian again on another Langdon project,” adds Dan Brown. “We’ve all wanted to make ‘The Lost Symbol’ for some time now, and I’m grateful to CBS Studios, Imagine Television Studios, Universal Television and Peacock for joining forces to make this project a reality. Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie have written a phenomenally captivating script, and the casting and performances are pitch-perfect.”

Langdonwill premiere on Peacock in the USA. Whilst not confirmed, it is possible the drama will end up somewhere on Sky in the UK, due to them both having the same parent company, but we’ll let you know if and when there is an official announcement.
