TV Premiere Highlights Coming To Disney+ UK In March 2023

As Spring arrives, Disney+ is bringing with that a stack of new content, along with the return of a certain helmeted warrior and his lil’ green sidekick. We also have two massive procedurals returning from their mid-season break, some teachers heading back to class, and a new Marvel animated series, alongside plenty of additions from Disney’s FX, Nat Geo, and Hulu brands. Here are the highlights from Disney+ UK in March 2023.

The Mandalorian Season 3 – 1st March 2023 (Series)

The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu (see ‘The Book Of Boba Fett’ if you missed that!) Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.

Abbott Elementary, Season 2 – 1st March 2023 (Series Boxset)

This workplace comedy follows a group of dedicated, passionate teachers – and a slightly tone-deaf principal – as they navigate the Philadelphia public school system. Despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life, and though these incredible public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do – even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude towards educating children.

Empire Of Light – 1st March 2023 (Film)

From director and writer Sam Mendes (“1917” and “Skyfall”), Empire of Light is a moving drama about the power of human connection during turbulent times. Set in and around a faded old cinema in an English coastal town in the early 1980s, it follows Hilary (Olivia Colman), a cinema manager struggling with her mental health, and Stephen (Micheal Ward), a new employee who longs to escape this provincial town in which he faces daily adversity. Both Hilary and Stephen find a sense of belonging through their unlikely and tender relationship and come to experience the healing power of music, cinema, and community.

Marvel’s Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, Season 1 – 1st March 2023 (Series)

 

The series follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur, whom she accidentally brings through time into present-day New York City. Equipped with Devil’s fierce loyalty and brawn, the loving support of her family and best friend Casey, Lunella sets out to make a difference and protect her Lower East Side neighbourhood from danger.

Finding Michael – 3rd March 2023 (Documentary)

In 1999, Michael Matthews became the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest. But three hours after he summited, he disappeared and was never found. Aged just 10 when Michael went missing, his brother, entrepreneur and broadcaster Spencer Matthews, always struggled to accept his death. Over 20 years later, Spencer receives a photo of a body on the mountain that could be Michael. He heads to Nepal and recruits Nims Purja, the world ’14 peaks’ record holder, to lead a team and search Everest’s “Death Zone” to try to find Michael. Once at an extreme altitude of over 8000m, the team relies on a 10-man search crew, armed with drones and the skillset to go off the summit lines. But as the weather closes in and with time against them, they face a series of unexpected challenges.

Grey’s Anatomy, Season 19b – 8th March 2023 (Returning Series)

Following their mid-season break, the staff of Grey Sloan return to encounter more hurdles in their professional and personal lives.

Station 19, Season 6b – 8th March 2023 (Returning Series)

Also returning from its mid-season break, ‘Station 19’ follows a group of heroic Seattle firefighters as they put their lives and hearts on the line. In Seattle, all firefighters are also trained EMTs and the crew at Station 19 is second to none. Working in 24-hour shifts, these professionals spend so much time together that they build relationships, unlike any other.

UnPrisoned – 10th March 2023 (Series)

 

Inspired by the life of creator Tracy McMillan, ‘UnPrisoned’ is a half-hour dramedy about a messy but perfectionist relationship therapist and single mom whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad gets out of prison and moves in with her and her teenage son.

Boston Strangler – 10th March 2023 (Film)

Award-winning writer-director Matt Ruskin’s Boston Strangler is a true-crime thriller about the trailblazing reporters who broke the story of the notorious 1960s Boston Strangler murders. The film follows Loretta McLaughlin, a reporter for the Record American newspaper, who became the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole, yet the duo finds themselves stymied by the rampant sexism of the era. Nevertheless, McLaughlin and Cole bravely pursue the story at great personal risk, putting their own lives on the line in their quest to uncover the truth.

Up Here – 24th March 2023 (Series)

A musical romantic comedy set in New York City in the waning days of 1999, following the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, Lindsay and Miguel, as they fall in love and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears and fantasies that lives inside their heads.

Kindred – 29th March 2023 (Series)

 

Adapted from the novel Kindred by Octavia E. Butler, the series centres on Dana James, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has uprooted her life of familial obligation and relocated to Los Angeles, ready to claim a future that, for once, feels all her own. But, before she can settle into her new home, she finds herself being violently pulled back and forth in time. She emerges at a 19th-century plantation, a place remarkably and intimately linked with Dana and her family. An interracial romance threads through Dana’s past and present, and the clock is ticking as she struggles to confront secrets she never knew ran through her blood, in this genre-breaking exploration of the ties that bind. Don’t get attached, it was cancelled by FX after one season.

Doogie Kamealoha M. D., Season 2 – 31st March 2023 (Series)

 

The series follows Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. With the support of her caring and comical ‘ohana (family) and friends, Lahela is determined to make the most of her teenage years and forge her own path.

Other Notable Additions

Outside of the various premieres above, a few older tv shows are also dropping onto the service this month. ‘Arrested Development’ Seasons 1-3 will be landing from 22nd March. Also arriving is ‘Black Narcissus’ on 1st March, which previously premiered on the BBC.
