‘Gattaca’ TV Series In Development By ‘Homeland’ Creators At Showtime/Paramount
Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, the co-creators of hit drama ‘Homeland’, are developing a tv series based on the 1997 film ‘Gattaca’ for Showtime/Paramount.
The original film, written and directed by Andrew Niccol, is set in a dystopian biopunk future society where genetic selection is commonplace. Children created via this practice are known as “Valids”, and have many opportunities in life. Children born naturally are more prone to genetic disorders and known as “Invalids”. They are relegated to menial jobs and serve as second-class citizens. The film follows Vincent (Ethan Hawke), an “In-valid” with a congenital heart condition who attempts to assume the identity of a “Valid” former athlete in order to fulfil his dream of travelling in space.
The tv show is written by Gordon and Gansa alongside Craig Borten (‘Dallas Buyers Club’). According to reports, the drama will be an adaptation of the movie, and again, follow the same plot of a “Invalid” who takes the identity of a “Valid” in order to fulfil their dreams.
Alongside ‘Homeland’, Gordon and Gansa are also behind new FOX drama ‘Accused’, which is based on the 2010 British drama of the same name. Previously, they were the people behind the much-loved action-thriller series ’24’.
The series has yet to be officially confirmed, but negotiations are underway with Sony Pictures Television, where Gordon and Gansa are based. The duo would exec produce the project alongside Glenn Gellar, and Danny DeVito, who produced the 1997 movie.
‘Gattaca’ is classed as “in development” at the moment so may or may not go to series. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
