Sky Max Aquires Kaley Cuoco’s ‘Based on a True Story’ To Air Winter

Sky Max has picked up the UK broadcast rights to Based on a True Story, a dark comedic thriller about a realtor (Kaley Cuoco), a former tennis star (Chris Messina) and a plumber who seizes a unique opportunity to capitalize on America’s obsession with true crime…

“Over the last decade, a true crime phenomenon has swept over America. Podcasts, documentaries, fictional shows based on true stories – they dominate the culture. Murderers have become celebrities and celebrities have become murderers which inspired me to create this show,” said creator/showrunner/exec producer/writer, Craig Rosenberg (The Boys, Gen V). “I became fascinated with the idea of a relatable married couple whose youthful dreams hadn’t come to fruition and who saw the true crime tidal wave as an opportunity to change their lives and save their marriage. Our Los Angeles setting – the city where everybody wants to be famous – became a vivid backdrop to our story of fame, ambition, aspiration and murder.”

Emmy Award nominee Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) stars as ‘Ava Bartlett,’ alongside Chris Messina (Air) as ‘Nathan’ and Tom Bateman (Thirteen Lives) as ‘Matt’ in your next obsession. Priscilla Quintana, Liana Liberato, Natalia Dyer, Alex Alomar Akpobome, Aisha Alfa, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, and Li Jun Li  also star.

Cuoco, Jason Bateman, and Michael Costigan (Aggregate Films) exec produce the series alongside director Alex Buono. Roxie Rodriguez (Aggregate Films) and Melissa Blake co-exec produce. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group is the studio.

‘Based on a True Story’ has been renewed for Season 2.

Based on a True Story‘ Season 1 does not have an exact UK premiere date, but will air on Sky Max over the 2023 Christmas/New Year period. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.

Why do Sky not advertise the broadcast dates well in advance? Sometimes you dont even know a show has started till the day after when you see a thumbnail on the Sky Menu. How are we suppose to plan to watch things if we dont know they are on.

I can see why you think that from the (intentionally vague) description, but no… Not at all. It’s very different to ‘Only Murders’. I had a preview of it, and I really loved the first season (I love Only Murders too).
