Geektown Awards – Best New & Returning US Procedural Series Or Franchise 2024

by Dave Elliott

Next up, we have two new categories for 2024 – Best New & Returning US Procedural Series Or Franchise. We know how much you love your weekly hit of US firefighters, medics and police, so we wanted to see which shows or franchises you liked the most. Here is how you voted.

Best New US Procedural Series

Nominees: Doctor Odyssey, Season 1 – Disney+, Elsbeth, Season 1 – Sky Witness, Matlock, Season 1 – Sky Witness, The Cleaning Lady, Season 1 – Sky Witness, Tracker, Season 1 – Disney+

Bronze: Matlock, Season 1 – Sky Witness

Silver: Tracker, Season 1 – Disney+

Gold Winner: The Cleaning Lady, Season 1 – Sky Witness

Whilst it had some tough competition from some excellent new procedural dramas this year, The Cleaning Lady cleaned up, taking the top spot. The drama stars Elodie Yung as a Cambodian doctor who comes to the US illegally to help her sick son, but ends up finding herself as a “cleaning lady” for various gangsters. While the series has been airing in the USA since 2022, Sky only began airing the seasons back-to-back in the UK this year, making it eligible in both the new and returning drama categories.

Best Returning US Procedural Series Or Franchise

Nominees: 9-1-1/9-1-1: Lone Star – Disney+, Chicago franchise – Sky, Fire Country, Season 2 – Sky Witness, Law & Order franchise – Sky/5USA, NCIS franchise – Disney+/Paramount+, The Cleaning Lady, Season 2/3 – Sky Witness, Tracker, Season 2 – Disney+, Will Trent, Season 2 – Disney+

Bronze: The Cleaning Lady, Seasons 2/3 – Sky Witness

Silver (Tied): 9-1-1/9-1-1: Lone Star – Disney+ & NCIS franchise – Disney+/Paramount+

Gold Winner: Law & Order franchise – Sky/5USA

When two shows in your franchise are the longest-running scripted dramas on US TV, I guess it shouldn’t come as a huge shock that it’s the Law & Order franchise in the top spot. With the main ‘Law & Order’ on 24 seasons, ‘Law & Order: SVU’ on 26 seasons, and ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ on 4 seasons, there is plenty of crime drama to get through! Not to mention its Canadian cousin, ‘Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent’, which is now also airing in the UK, albeit buried on limited release via the “LG Channels”. It would be nice if we could get the whole franchise in one place over here!
