To celebrate Back to Hogwarts, HBO has revealed some magical casting news for its upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ television series. The announcement sees the return of Warwick Davis (Willow, Life’s Too Short) as Professor Filius Flitwick, marking his homecoming to the wizarding world in the role he first brought to life on the big screen.
Warwick’s return may not come as a huge surprise. We’ve spoken to him many times over the years at Comic Cons, and he’s always been fiercely proud of his contributions to the wizarding world. While there are many talented little people actors out there, it’s hard to imagine Warwick stepping aside and letting someone else slip into Flitwick’s robes if the offer to return was on the table.
For those who don’t know, Back to Hogwarts takes place every year on 1st September, marking the date Harry and friends boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time. It has grown into a global fan celebration, and HBO clearly decided it was the perfect moment to drop some fresh casting charms.
Alongside Davis, the new series has confirmed seven more additions to its already stacked line-up:
- Hogwarts students – Elijah Oshin (Ted Lasso) as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens (A Haunting in Venice) as Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash (The Serpent Queen) as Gregory Goyle.
- Hogwarts staff – Sirine Saba (Doctors) as Professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden (From Hell) as Professor Cuthbert Binns, and Bríd Brennan (Brooklyn) as Madam Poppy Pomfrey.
- Gringotts – Leigh Gill (Joker) as the goblin banker Griphook.

Behind the scenes, the series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (Succession), with Mark Mylod (House of the Dragon) on board to direct multiple episodes and executive produce. The project comes from HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman of Heyday Films also involved.
The new ‘Harry Potter’ TV series is due to debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max (including launch markets such as Germany, Italy, and the UK).
