Marvel has officially renewed ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ for a third season, with filming due to kick off in 2026. The news comes straight from Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum, who told IGN: “In terms of Daredevil, yeah, we are greenlit for Season 3 and we start shooting next year.” That confirmation clears up the confusion sparked earlier this year when Charlie Cox accidentally referred to the upcoming second season as the show’s “final season,” while Vincent D’Onofrio teased there was still a “good chance” of more to come.
For fans, the announcement is particularly sweet given how turbulent the series’ journey has been. What started as something of a reboot with a different tone evolved, mid-production, into more of a direct continuation of the original Netflix series, following fan feedback and Marvel’s own recognition that the “Devil of Hell’s Kitchen” was best served by honouring his existing legacy.
Season 2: What We Know So Far
Before we get too carried away with Season 3, there’s still plenty to be excited about with Season 2, which is currently filming and expected to premiere in Spring 2026 on Disney+. Showrunner Dario Scardapane (who also steered The Punisher) is back at the helm, and he’s promising a run of episodes that finally embraces the show’s gritty roots after the recalibration in Season 1.
The returning cast is stacked: Cox once again dons the horns as Matt Murdock, with D’Onofrio chewing scenery as Wilson Fisk, now firmly established in his political career. They’re joined by long-time allies Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page and Elden Henson (The Mighty Ducks) as Foggy Nelson, both of whom made fan-pleasing appearances in Season 1’s reshot pilot. And yes, Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) is also back as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, ensuring plenty of chaos for Matt to navigate.
Season 2 is also bringing in some heavyweight new faces. Matthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy’s, Scream) has joined the cast in a recurring role, with character details under wraps but plenty of speculation that he could be a thorn in both Matt and Fisk’s sides. Meanwhile, Lili Taylor (Outer Range, The Conjuring) is playing a political adversary for Fisk, adding a new layer to his mayoral ambitions. On top of that, Marvel finally confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in the MCU: Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica Jones.
Speaking at Disney’s upfronts, Ritter said, “It is so great to be back. Returning to Jessica after three seasons, and the Defenders and now joining the MCU. I am so excited to bring back this iconic character. Without giving too much away… there’s much in store for Jessica Jones – this is going to be an incredible season.”
Season 1 Recap: Setting The Stage
Season 1 ended with Fisk, now Mayor of New York, tightening his grip on the city. Alongside his wife Vanessa (played by Ayelet Zurer), Fisk set about carving out a quasi city-state from the Red Hook port. Matt, once again fully suited up in the red Daredevil armour, swore to take back his city, with Karen Page and Frank Castle rallying to his side. The finale also set up personal complications, with Dr. Glenn (played by Margarita Levieva) swayed into Fisk’s camp, leaving her relationship with Matt in jeopardy.
That cliffhanger tees up a second season that promises higher stakes, more returning characters from the Netflix run, and – if fan theories are correct – the re-emergence of Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye, who appeared in the Season 1 reshot pilot.
What Season 3 Means
With Season 2 due in 2026, the Season 3 greenlight is a strong vote of confidence from Marvel Studios. It signals that Born Again has successfully weathered its rocky development and struck a chord with audiences who were sceptical after the Netflix series ended. It also leaves the door wide open for more familiar faces from the “Defenders” corner of the MCU to show up. With Jessica Jones confirmed, it seems only a matter of time before the likes of Luke Cage or Iron Fist might re-enter the picture.
The big question now is whether Marvel will lean harder into the grounded, street-level storytelling that defined the Netflix run, or whether it will eventually fold Daredevil more directly into the wider Avengers storyline. For now, fans can at least rest easy knowing the Man Without Fear isn’t going anywhere.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ does not yet have a UK premiere date for Season 3, but will air on Disney+, with Season 2 expected to land in Spring 2026.
