Paramount+ has confirmed that ‘Lioness‘, the Taylor Sheridan-created CIA action-drama, will return for a third season. The series, led by Zoe Saldaña (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), has become one of the streamer’s flagship thrillers since launching in 2023. Both stars are also back in executive producer roles.
The renewal arrives nearly ten months after the second season finale, which saw Joe (Saldaña) and her team caught up in a tense mission involving Chinese nuclear scientists, Turkish forces and a looming threat in Iran. After broken bones, near-death encounters and plenty of bullets flying, Joe at least managed to make it home to husband Neal and their daughters.
Season 2 also brought in a stacked supporting cast, including Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption), Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Laysla De Oliveira (Locke & Key), Genesis Rodriguez (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), Dave Annable (Yellowstone), and more. Kidman’s performance even earned her a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
While Paramount+ hasn’t yet revealed details of the third season’s story, the streamer has confirmed Saldaña and Kidman will once again front the series.
At this point, Paramount+ is starting to feel less like Paramount+ and more like “Sheridan+”, thanks to the ridiculous number of shows Taylor Sheridan has in play. Lioness joins Tulsa King (renewed for Season 4), Landman (back this November for Season 2), and Mayor of Kingstown (returning later this month). Add to that the highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer (The First Lady), Patrick J. Adams (Suits), and Kurt Russell (The Thing), and Sheridan is pretty much running the Paramount+ drama department.
