Peacock Renews ‘Twisted Metal’ For Season Three As David Reed Steps In As Showrunner

by Dave Elliott

The engines are roaring once again as Twisted Metal heads into a third season, with Peacock handing the live-action game adaptation another outing and installing David Reed (The Boys, Supernatural) as the new showrunner. Reed takes the wheel from creator Michael Jonathan Smith, who departs after steering the first two seasons.

The series has been one of Peacock’s biggest wins in the action comedy space, adapting the iconic PlayStation franchise with a mix of carnage, character work and deeply silly vehicular mayhem. Season one introduced John Doe, played by Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), a fast-talking outsider tasked with delivering a mysterious package across a ruined America. His unlikely partner in the chaos was Quiet, portrayed by Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), an axe-swinging car thief who brought as much heart as horsepower.

Along the way, they collided with all manner of oddballs, including Sweet Tooth, the murderous clown played physically by Joe Seanoa (AEW) with the voice of Will Arnett (Arrested Development). The first season’s finale pushed the pair into the orbit of Calypso, played by Anthony Carrigan (Barry), and season two threw them straight into the infamous demolition derby tournament at the core of the games.

Season two also introduced John’s long-lost sister Dollface, portrayed by Tiana Okoye (The Winchesters), twisting the story further as John and Quiet fought their way through new enemies, old rivals and an entire stadium of spectators who eventually became part of Calypso’s latest scheme. The final post-credit sting left things on a knife-edge as the duo prepared to face Calypso directly after being framed for the massacre at the tournament, setting the stage for the next chapter.

Peacock revealed that ‘Twisted Metal’ season two pulled in an enormous 993 million minutes viewed, making it the streamer’s second highest-reached original returning scripted season. Given that momentum, a third entry feels like a natural move.

Behind the scenes, Reed arrives with an impressive résumé that includes Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Magicians, Aquarius, Revolution and his early work on Supernatural. He started his career as a writer’s assistant on Battlestar Galactica while penning creature features for Syfy, and he has also written novels, comics and video games. He currently works under an overall TV deal at Sony Pictures Television.

Reed will executive produce alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Arnett and Marc Forman from Electric Ave, Mackie via Make It Gravy Productions, Jason Spire from Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato from Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business. The series continues to be produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television.

There is no premiere date yet for season three of ‘Twisted Metal’, and Peacock has not confirmed whether filming has begun or when we can expect more chaos on screen. For now, the engine is running, the road is open, and John and Quiet still have unfinished business with Calypso.

Twisted Metal Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Peacock in the USA and Paramount+ in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
