‘Young Sherlock’ is officially coming back for a second season on Prime Video, with Guy Ritchie (The Gentlemen, Sherlock Holmes) set to return to direct the first episode and executive produce.
The action-packed mystery stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After) as a younger version of the legendary detective, reimagining Sherlock Holmes as a rebellious teenager thrown into his first major case. Prime Video says the series has become a sizeable global hit, landing in the top 10 Prime Original seasons of all time, hitting number one in more than 95 countries, and pulling in 45 million viewers in its first 28 days.
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios, said: “Young Sherlock has that rare magic—millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story, they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon. Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in Season Two.”
Season one followed Sherlock as he crossed paths with James Moriarty and found himself caught up in a murder investigation that threatened his freedom. Set across Victorian England and beyond, ‘Young Sherlock’ mixed mystery, action and a globe-trotting conspiracy story to chart the early life of the future Baker Street detective.
Alongside Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After), the first season also starred Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time), Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Natascha McElhone (Halo), Max Irons (Condor) and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech).
The series is created for television and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill, with Guy Ritchie returning as both executive producer and director for the opening episode of season two. Motive Pictures leads physical production.
