Netflix has confirmed ‘Heartstopper Forever‘ will bring Nick and Charlie’s story to a close this summer, with the beloved YA romance returning as a finale film rather than a fourth season.
Announced on the fourth anniversary of the original series landing on Netflix, the movie picks up with Nick and Charlie still deeply in love, but facing the sort of change that tends to make even the steadiest relationships wobble a bit. With Nick preparing to head off to university and Charlie starting to find a stronger sense of independence at school, the reality of being apart begins to creep in. It is not exactly the easiest moment for a teenage romance, even one as adored as this.
The film once again centres on Kit Connor (His Dark Materials, Rocketman) as Nick Nelson and Joe Locke (Agatha All Along, Sweeney Todd) as Charlie Spring, with the wider gang also returning, including William Gao (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Yasmin Finney (Doctor Who, Mars), Corinna Brown (The Rebel Cheer Squad), Kizzy Edgell (The School for Good and Evil), Tobie Donovan (Reflex), Jenny Walser (Renegade Nell), Rhea Norwood (Consent), and Leila Khan.
Alice Oseman writes the finale and also executive produces, with Wash Westmoreland directing. Oseman has described the film as an exploration of “time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings,” which sounds exactly like the sort of thing likely to leave the fandom emotionally compromised by the closing credits.
There is also a bit more ambition to the format this time around. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Oseman said the shift from series to film allowed the team to think bigger and make something “memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric,” rather than structuring everything around episodic cliffhangers. That suggests this is not just a shorter substitute for another season, but a deliberate final chapter designed to give the story a proper send-off.
Alongside Nick and Charlie’s relationship facing its biggest test yet, the film will also follow their friends as they deal with the bittersweet reality of growing up, changing, and moving on. Which is to say, it sounds very much like Heartstopper is preparing to say goodbye in the most Heartstopper way possible, tenderly, emotionally, and with a very strong chance of wrecking everyone.
‘Heartstopper Forever’ premieres Friday, 17th July 2026 on Netflix. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
