Channel 4 has released the official trailer for ‘The Undeclared War’ Series 2, with the cyber-thriller returning soon for another round of digital warfare, political tension, and people in very secure rooms looking deeply worried at computer screens.
Set in 2024, ‘The Undeclared War’ returns with a fresh wave of tension and drama as the elite Malware Department at GCHQ deals with the fallout from a devastating Russian cyber-attack. Just when it seems the UK may have gained the upper hand, Danny and the team uncover a far more dangerous threat lurking beneath the surface.
Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible, Star Trek) returns as Danny Patrick, Director of Operations at GCHQ, the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters. Hannah Khalique-Brown (Black Doves, Wolf Hall) also returns as Saara Parvin, the brilliant young coder on placement at GCHQ, with Alex Jennings (The Crown, This Is Going To Hurt) back as Danny’s boss, David Neal, the Director of GCHQ.
Joining the cast for Series 2 is Siân Brooke (Blue Lights, Trying) as Barbara Patrick, Danny’s wife, ex-MI6 and now an analyst at GCHQ. Also returning are Danny Sapani (Black Panther) as Charlie Francis, GCHQ’s Head of Security and Danny’s childhood friend, and Ed Stoppard (The Crown) as Richard Marston, the newly elevated Foreign Secretary and a constant thorn in Danny’s side. Chloe Pirrie (The Queen’s Gambit) joins as Lt Colonel Roz Cavendish, seconded by Marston to GCHQ in the newly created role of Director of Rapid Response, a move which Danny sees as a direct threat to his authority.
The six-part second series is written by Colin Teevan (Das Boot, Rebellion), with all episodes directed by Paul McGuigan (Sherlock, Inside Man). The drama is produced by Playground, Stonehenge Films and Universal Global, a division of Universal Studio Group.
“I want to thank Channel 4 and Universal Global Television for all their support, and I am delighted to welcome back Simon Pegg and thrilled that he will be joined this season by the wonderful Siân Brooke. As we dive into the second season of The Undeclared War, the series raises the stakes as it explores the ever-increasing complexities of a world where technology and humanity collide.” said Colin Callender, series co-creator and executive producer.
The original series of ‘The Undeclared War’ came from Peter Kosminsky and Colin Callender, and mixed cyber warfare with political thriller elements to create a worryingly plausible drama about the unseen digital battles taking place behind the scenes. Given the way the world is going, Series 2 should have absolutely no shortage of real-world tension to tap into.
