Geektown Awards – Best New & Returning Comic Book Series

The other big geeky categories in the Geektown Awards this year are of course, Best New & Returning Comic Book Series. I just love the fact we live in an age where there are enough comic book shows, we can actually have separate categories for them! Here’s how things played out.

Best New Comic Book Series

Nominees: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, iZombie, Lucifer, Lucky Man, Luke Cage, Preacher

Bronze: Luke Cage

Silver: Lucifer

And The Winner Is…

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Whilst Marvel arguably dominate on the big screen, DC have been doing spectacular work on television, thanks to the genius of Greg Berlanti. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow takes the top spot of new comic book series. And if you’re thinking ‘isn’t that on it’s 2nd season?’, yes it is. However, the first season wasn’t broadcast until March 2016, so that makes it very much a new show. Legends hits the spot with a great ensemble cast and some brilliant action packed sequences. It also handles all the wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff without tripping over itself or making it too hard to follow, which is a great achievement.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is due to return on Sky 1 at the start of February 2017.

Best Returning Comic Book Series

Nominees: Agent Carter, Arrow, Daredevil, Flash, iZombie, Supergirl, The Walking Dead

Bronze: Daredevil

Silver: The Flash

And The Winner Is…

The Walking Dead

Bits of The Walking Dead Season 7 may have dragged, but there’s no denying that the premiere episode was one of the most anticipated returns in tv history, and it didn’t disappoint. Negan delivering fatal blows to the heads of beloved characters was difficult but compelling to watch. We were introduced to some interesting new characters, such as King Ezekiel & his pet tiger Shiva. We got to see how the Alexandrians coped with the regime change (hint: not all that well!). It’s been a mixed first half to the season, however it ended on a high, seeing the core group reunited, and it looks like they’re planning to take the offensive.

We shall see when The Walking Dead returns for Season 7 part 2, 13 February 2017 at 9pm on Fox UK.
