We now step away from television for a moment and turn our attention to video games and film, with the results of Geektown’s Game of the Year and Geektown’s Movie of the Year.
As ever, both categories delivered an eclectic mix of nominees. On the gaming side, there was everything from long-awaited sequels and beloved franchises to strategy titles and indie darlings. Meanwhile, the movie shortlist ranged from big-budget blockbusters and franchise entries to original genre fare and prestige drama.
Here’s how you voted.

Gold Winner: Donkey Kong Bananza – Nintendo EPD
In a result that will surprise absolutely no one who’s spent any time with the game, but may be a shock to some, Donkey Kong Bananza swings its way to the top to take Geektown’s Game of the Year.
Nintendo’s latest outing for its iconic ape clearly struck a chord with voters, comfortably finishing ahead of a strong and varied field. From long-running favourites like Jurassic World Evolution 3 to the brutal return of Doom, the category was packed with quality, but Donkey Kong Bananza’s sheer fun factor and polish proved impossible to beat.
Elsewhere, it was a strong year for both big sequels and original ideas, with titles such as Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 finding solid support among Geektown readers, while critical favourite Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 performed well overall, but fell just short of the podium here.

Gold Winner: 28 Years Later
Taking the top spot with a commanding share of the vote, 28 Years Later is crowned Geektown’s Movie of the Year.
The long-awaited return to the world first introduced in 28 Days Later clearly resonated with audiences, blending horror, tension and atmosphere in a way that felt both timely and true to the franchise’s roots. Its victory over heavyweight competition such as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Wicked: Part Two underlines just how strong an impression it made.
Behind it, the continued appeal of big-screen spectacle was evident, with franchises like Mission: Impossible, Fantastic Four and Sonic all placing well, while original and genre-bending entries such as K-Pop Demon Hunters and Sinners proved there’s still plenty of appetite for something a little different.
Together, these two categories highlight a year where audiences rewarded both fun and familiarity, but also showed a willingness to back bold ideas when they land.
