Welcome to 2017, and with the brand new year, as always we kick off by taking a look at the winners and runners up in the Geektown Awards!
The 5th Annual Geektown Awards drew a record number of votes from you, the Geektown visitors, so I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that voted and made their opinions known. Now we get to the important part. The winners! We’re kicking things off with the Best New Non Sci-fi Drama and Best Returning Non Sci-fi Drama.
Best New Non Sci-fi Drama
Nominees: Billions, Designated Survivor, Hooten & The Lady, Quantico, The Crown, The Night Of.
Bronze: Quantico
Silver: Billions
And The Winner Is…
The Crown
Peter Morgan’s epic saga charting the early lives of the British royal family, with the first 2 seasons starring Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth, and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. The Crown might not be entirely historically accurate, but it’s a great example of a biopic drama, and one which Netflix clearly have faith in, having already ordered a second season. The entire run is expected to last 60 episodes over 6 seasons, each showing a decade in the life of the royal family. The plan is to change the cast ever 2 seasons, so the actors are more age appropriate to the Queen and Prince in that time period.
Best Returning Non Sci-fi Drama
Nominees: Better Call Saul, Blindspot, Elementary, House of Cards, Marco Polo, Mr. Robot, Narcos, Orange is the New Black, Peaky Blinders, Suits, The Blacklist, The Fall, The Last Ship,Vikings.
Bronze: Peaky Blinders
Silver: Vikings
And The Winner Is…

It’s another win for Netflix, who are crushing it with original drama’s right now. Orange is the New Black has been a long time favourite at the Geektown Awards, having picked up silver and gold in the past few years. After a slightly mixed reaction to season 3, season 4 really saw OITNB back on track, with some horrific emotional gut-punching scenes, which saw some well loved characters leave the series. Again, Orange is the New Black is a show Netflix have shown huge faith in, by giving it a 3 season renewal, with the 5th season due in June 2017.
