Dexter Fletcher Rejoins Queen Biopic Replacing Bryan Singer As Director

The Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ has found a new director to replace the wayward Bryan Singer it has been announced. Dexter Fletcher, who was originally signed on to direct before Singer, will take over the reins once again.

For those of you that haven’t been following the drama behind the scenes of the film, they’ve gone through a lot of turbulence with both on and off-screen talent. The latest issue involved direct Bryan Singer not returning to work following their Thanksgiving break. He claims it was due to a pressing “family matter” believed to be relating to his mother being ill. However, the studio fired him citing it as the last straw in a string of “unreliable behaviour on set.” Ironically, Fletcher was the original director of the movie but left after 4 months over “creative differences” with co-producer Graham King.

They also had a number of issues finding the right person to play the iconic Freddie Mercury. Sacha Baron Cohen had originally been cast in the role, but left over “creative differences” with the remaining members of Queen. Ben Wishaw was then set to play Freddie, but ending up leaving the project when production stalled due to Fletcher’s departure. Finally, in November 2016, they announced Rami Malek would take on the role, and as you can see by the image above, that looks to have been an excellent choice (that is Rami as Freddie in the image!)

If you are unfamiliar with Dexter Fletcher, he is the actor/director who was behind the camera for films such as ‘Sunshine on Leith’, and ‘Eddie the Eagle’. In front of the camera, you’ll know him from ‘Hotel Babylon’, ‘Band of Brothers’, and ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’. But of course, those of you of a certain age will always remember him as the loveable Spike in ‘Press Gang’.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is due to be released in December 2018.
