‘Heartstopper Forever’ Trailer Sees Nick & Charlie Face Their Biggest Challenge As Netflix Finale Film Arrives This July

by Dave Elliott

Heartstopper Forever has released its official trailer, giving us a first proper look at Netflix’s finale film as Nick and Charlie prepare for one of the biggest changes in their lives.

The feature-length film brings Alice Oseman’s much-loved coming-of-age romance to a close this July, as Nick prepares to leave for university and Charlie begins to find a new sense of independence at school. They may be inseparable, but the reality of a long-distance relationship is starting to loom large, and for anyone who has spent the last few years emotionally attached to these two, yes, Netflix appears to be coming directly for your tear ducts.

The trailer opens with Charlie reflecting, “Everyone thinks teenage relationships don’t last,” before giving us a glimpse of Nick and Charlie trying to work out what forever really means when everything around them is changing.

Written by Alice Oseman, based on the final instalment of their graphic novel series, ‘Heartstopper Forever’ sees the Truham and Higgs gang facing the bittersweet business of growing up. Alongside Nick and Charlie’s next chapter, their friends are also navigating love, friendship, identity, and the difficult realisation that moving forward sometimes means letting go of the version of life you thought you had figured out.

“Heartstopper starts like a fairy tale and a bit idealistic, in a beautiful way that we all love,” says Oseman. “But in the film, we’re taking a slightly grittier look at romance and what it is to be in a long-term relationship. I find that fascinating and exciting.”

The trailer also features the first use of ‘Stupid Song’, taken from Olivia Rodrigo’s brand-new album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’, which is exactly the sort of emotional attack we have come to expect from this franchise. Netflix is also giving fans access to the full trailer footage so they can create their own fan edits, because clearly the internet has not already produced enough ways for us all to sob over Nick and Charlie.

‘Heartstopper Forever’ stars Kit Connor (Rocketman, His Dark Materials) as Nick Nelson, Joe Locke (Agatha All Along) as Charlie Spring, William Gao (Heartstopper) as Tao Xu, Yasmin Finney (Doctor Who) as Elle Argent, Corinna Brown (Heartstopper) as Tara Jones, Kizzy Edgell (Heartstopper) as Darcy Olsson, Tobie Donovan (Heartstopper) as Isaac Henderson, Jenny Walser (Call the Midwife) as Tori Spring, Rhea Norwood (Consent) as Imogen Heaney, and Leila Khan (Heartstopper) as Sahar Zahid.

Patrick Walters, who has served as executive producer across the series and film, says the finale captures that strange, fizzy moment between being a teenager and stepping into whatever comes next.

“They’re not adults yet, but there’s that feeling of looking over the edge of a cliff, and you know you’re about to fall over it,” he says. “It’s going to be exciting, but you’re also scared. And that kind of energy and fizz is evolved and has a maturity, and still speaks to the teenage experience.”

The film is directed by Wash Westmoreland, with Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Alice Oseman, Euros Lyn, Joe Locke and Kit Connor serving as executive producers. See-Saw Films produces.

“This has always been true for Heartstopper,” says Oseman, “the idea that no matter what hard stuff is happening in your life, there’s always that feeling that you can find with other people.”

As for saying goodbye to characters who have become so deeply loved, Oseman adds, “[Heartstopper has] taken me throughout my 20s. I know that these characters will always be precious to me and I will never forget them.”

Connor also reflects on bringing the story to an end, saying, “These characters have meant a lot to us over the years. As EPs, it feels like we can really say goodbye to them in a way that feels the most right. It is bittersweet, but it is also a really nice way of ending it.” Locke agrees, adding, “This show has meant so much to me in my life. I’ll always carry that with me.”

Heartstopper Forever premieres Friday, 17th July 2026 on Netflix.
