‘Supernatural’s’ Kathryn Newton To Star In Modern Take On ‘Lord of the Flies’ For Netflix

Netflix has ordered a modern take on ‘Lord of the Flies’ with ‘Supernatural’ star Kathryn Newton it has been announced today.

The (currently untitled) series follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town, left without any trace of their parents. As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive.

Kathryn Newton takes the role of Allie, a girl living in the shadow of her older sister, Kim. Allie ultimately inspires her sister to take charge of the group and supports her during the ensuing confrontation, as the kids try to establish some sort of order.

Newton starred as Claire Novak in CW’s long-running ‘Supernatural’, and would have been starring in ‘Wayward Sisters’, if the spin-off series had been picked up. It seems CW’s loss is Netflix’s gain. She also starred as Abigail in HBO’s smash hit series ‘Big Little Lies’, and played Joanie in AMC’s ‘Halt and Catch Fire’.

The series comes from Christopher Keyser, who is no stranger to shows where kids are without their parents, having created the hugely popular series ‘Party of Five’. He also wrote on FX series ‘Tyrant’ and Amazon show ‘The Last Tycoon’. In addition to this new untitled series, Keyser is currently working on a ‘Party of Five’ reboot for Freeform, with the twist that it will follow five children in a Mexican-American family who are left to survive on their own after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico. The new untitled series will be directed by Marc Webb, the man behind the camera for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘500 Days of Summer’.

The ‘Untitled Chris Keyser Drama’ has been given a 10-episode order, but no air date yet. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
