‘Stranger Things’ Officially Renewed For Season 4. Duffer Brothers Sign Overall Deal With Netflix

by Dave Elliott

To the surprise of literally no one, Netflix has announced Stranger Things has been renewed for a 4th Season. However, they have also announced creators and showrunners The Duffer Brothers have signed an overall multi-year film and series deal with the streaming service.

Up until now, ‘Stranger Things’ has been set purely in 1980’s Hawkins, Indiana, but from the little teaser, we find out “we’re not in Hawkins anymore…” The previous seasons followed the adventures of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) as they navigate life in small-town America. Along with their best friend, the psychokinetic Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), and older siblings Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Steve (Joe Keery) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer), they deal with whatever life throws at them… which in their case, includes the Demogorgon, which has been terrorising the town of Hawkins from his home in the “Upside Down”.

SEASON 3 SPOILER WARNING: At the end of last season, we saw the group split up. Joyce’s (Winona Ryder) family, along with a now powerless Eleven, move out of Hawkins, after the apparent “death” El’s adopted father Jim Hopper (David Harbour)… Except, at the very end of the episode, we discover that Hopper is very much alive, and has, somehow, ended up in a facility in Kamchatka, Russia, and has avoided being fed to their pet Demogorgon… for now…

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix,” commented show creators The Duffer Brothers. “Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives. From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about.”

The twin brothers have now signed an overall deal with Netflix which will see them create more series and films for the streaming service. From its premiere in 2016 ‘Stranger Things’ garnered critical acclaim and went on to become a global phenomenon, picking up over 50 awards nominations, including those from the Emmys, the Golden Globes, the Grammys, SAG, DGA, WGA, BAFTA, the Art Directors Guild and the People’s Choice Awards, among many others.

“The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love,” commented Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “We can’t wait to see what the Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”

Stranger Things‘ Seasons 1 to 3 are all available to watch right now on Netflix.
