Kim Cattrall has joined Queer As Folk, Peacock’s upcoming “reimagined” US drama based on the beloved series created by Russell T. Davies.

Set in New Orleans, the remake is described as a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British drama, exploring a diverse group of friends whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. This will mark the second time the US has made a version of the show, with a previous US iteration airing on Showtime from 2000 to 2005.

Cattrall is set to take the recurring role of a martini-soaked, high society southern debutant with trailer park roots. She joins the previously announced cast of Devin Way (‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Station 19’) who plays a charming and sometimes chaotic commitment-phobe who finds a reason to stay in New Orleans after tragedy rocks his community; Fin Argus (‘Clouds’, ‘The Gifted’) as a cocky high schooler whose confidence belies his lack of real-world experience; Jesse James Keitel (‘Big Sky’), as a trans, semi-reformed party girl who is struggling to grow up; Candace Grace (‘Acts of Crime’) as a non-binary professor navigating the rocky transition from punk to parenthood; Johnny Sibilly (‘Hacks’, ‘Pose’) as a successful lawyer who is not as put together as he seems; And Ryan O’Connell (‘Special’, ‘Will & Grace’) who plays a pop culture nerd with cerebral palsy who is more than ready for some independence.

Kim Cattrall has recently wrapped the film ‘About My Father’ with Robert DeNiro and is currently shooting the Hulu series ‘How I Met My Father’, where she has a major recurring role. She is, of course, best known for her role in ‘Sex and the City’ as Samantha, but opted not to join the rest of the cast in the upcoming continuation series ‘And Just Like That’, which is due to air on Sky Comedy in December.

The ‘Queer As Folk’ reboot comes from Stephen Dunn who serves as creator/writer/exec producer and directed the first episode. Star Ryan O’Connell also serves as a writer and co-executive producer on the series. Other exec producers are Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, original British series creator Russell T. Davies, Nicola Shindler, and Louise Pedersen on behalf of All3 Media International, which distributes the format and the original British series produced by Red Productions for Channel 4. The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Queer As Folk‘ does not yet have a premiere date, but production is currently underway in New Orleans and LA. The drama will air on Peacock in the USA, and presumably in the UK once the streaming service launches here. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
