Prime Video returned to Middle-earth at San Diego Comic-Con with a sizeable collection of surprises for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, including a dramatic new Season 3 teaser trailer, several character reveals, and the news that Simon Pegg (The Cornetto Trilogy, Mission: Impossible, Star Trek) will provide the voice of the Balrog.
The fantasy epic returns this November, picking up five years after the fall of Eregion. Middle-earth is now at war, with Sauron’s armies conquering almost everything in their path as the Dark Lord turns his attention towards forging the One Ring.
The new trailer offers a much darker look at the season ahead, as Elves, Dwarves, Men and Wizards are forced to consider some potentially uneasy alliances. Sauron has established himself in the newly completed tower of Barad-dûr, while Khazad-dûm, Lindon and Rivendell remain among the few places standing between him and total victory.
One of the biggest Comic-Con reveals was that the fiery Balrog will speak for the first time, with Pegg providing the creature’s voice. A featurette shown exclusively inside Hall H also previewed the return of Fell-beasts, Mûmakil war elephants, Orcs and several other creatures heading into battle.
Season 3 will also introduce Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky) as Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV. The name provides another connection to the Dwarven royal lineage familiar from ‘The Hobbit’, in which a later Thráin is the father of Thorin Oakenshield.
Other newcomers include Andrew Richardson (Guys & Dolls) as Anarion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur, and Adam Young (Don’t Breathe 2) as Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc who may not be quite what he seems.
They join the previously announced Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, and Zubin Varla (Andor) as Khamûl the Easterling. Khamûl is one of Sauron’s Ringwraiths and a figure already known to fans of Tolkien’s wider mythology.
The Comic-Con panel was also interrupted by four heavily armoured Nazgnagôl, the Second Age incarnation of the Nazgûl. These Ring-servants will be introduced during the new season as Sauron’s power continues to grow.
Meanwhile, the trailer shows Celeborn reunited with Galadriel and seemingly preparing to join the fight alongside Arondir. Gandalf has also embraced his newly discovered identity following the Season 2 reveal, although his warnings suggest the road ahead will involve plenty of death and destruction.
Prime Video will launch the first four episodes of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 together. Two further episodes will arrive the following week, followed by the final two episodes one week later.
The series is once again produced by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, alongside executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and executive producer-director Charlotte Brändström.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 premieres Wednesday, 11th November 2026 on Prime Video, with the first four episodes. Episodes five and six premiere Wednesday, 18th November 2026, followed by the final two episodes on Wednesday, 25th November 2026.
