‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Cancelled By The CW After 7 Seasons

The CW began their bloodbath last night with the cancellation of ‘Batwoman’, and now have made sure the Legends Of Tomorrow are yesterday’s news, as they cancel the DC Arrowverse show after 7 Seasons.

‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ followed a (somewhat dysfunctional) team of superheroes as they travel through time fixing issues with the past and future. The team has gone through a number of changes over the years, but the final crew consisted of co-captains Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan); A historian who transforms into steel, Nate Heywood (Nick Zano); a former Queen of Hell turned rookie witch Astra Logue (Olivia Swann); The gun-totin’ empath Spooner Cruz (Lisseth Chavez); A warlock-in-training who’s secretly an alien, Gary Green (Adam Tsekhman); And the brother-sister air-totem-wielding duo, Zari Tarazi (Tala Ashe) and Behrad Tarazi (Shayan Sobhian). In season seven they picked up a couple of familiar but shocking new teammates: a real-life, human Gideon (Amy Pemberton), whose knowledge of the timeline may be the key to solving all of the Legends’ problems; And Welsh inventor Dr. Gwyn Davies (Matt Ryan), who bears a striking resemblance to former teammate Constantine.

“Well, folks. It’s been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no season 8 of #LegendsOfTomorrow. We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could,” said co-showrunner Keto Shimizu announcing the cancellation on Twitter. “Thank you to our fans; your love and passion for our strange band of misfits has made every break, every script, every daily, every cut, and every mix worth all the hard work. We see you, we love you, and you’ll always have a place on the Waverider.”

As I mentioned in the earlier ‘Batwoman’ cancellation news, changes at Warner Bros Discovery due to the merger, coupled with the potential sale of The CW, has made the network make some hard decisions this year, rather than their usual policy of renewing practically every show. Back in March, they renewed ‘The Flash‘, ‘Superman & Lois‘, and ‘Riverdale‘, along with ‘Walker‘, ‘Kung Fu‘, ‘All American‘, and ‘Nancy Drew‘. Still “on the bubble” and waiting for renewal news are ‘Legacies’, ‘Charmed’, ‘4400’, and ‘Dynasty’, alongside freshman series ‘Naomi’ and ‘All American: Homecoming’. Out of the remaining CW shows, ‘Stargirl’ and ‘In the Dark’ have yet to premiere their next seasons, and ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ was already renewed for a fourth season last year.

This latest cancellation really feels like the Arrowverse is coming to an end. Although ‘The Flash’ has been renewed for a ninth season, there are a lot of rumours that it might be its last. Whilst that would leave DC shows ‘Superman & Lois‘, ‘Stargirl’ and ‘Naomi’ (assuming the latter two get renewals) on The CW, all three shows are nowhere near as deeply interconnected as those earlier Arrowverse series. There is also the ‘Gotham Knights’ pilot in contention for pick-up, but we still don’t have any news as to whether that will be moving forward, or whether it would have any connection to the Arrowverse.

‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ was produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti, Phil Klemmer, Sarah Schechter, Keto Shimizu, Grainne Godfree, and James Eagan served as showrunner.

Legends Of Tomorrow‘ 7th (and now final) season is currently airing on Sky Max in the UK.
