‘The Ark’ Sky Sci-Fi Sets April Premiere For Drama From ‘Stargate SG-1’ Creator

Sky Sci-Fi has set an May UK premiere for The Ark, a new sci-fi drama from ‘Stargate SG-1’ co-creator Jonathan Glassner, and Dean Devlin (‘Stargate’ film, ‘The Librarians’, ‘Leverage’).

‘The Ark’ takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.

The series stars Christie Burke (‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’), Richard Fleeshman (‘Coronation Street’, ‘The Sandman’), Reece Ritchie (‘The Outpost’, ‘Rellik’), Stacey Read and Ryan Adams. Christina Wolfe (‘Batwoman’), Pavle Jerini? (‘The Outpost’), Shalini Peiris (‘Lockwood & Co’, ‘Danny and Mick’), and Tiana Upcheva (‘The Outpost’) also star.

The drama, which began airing in February in the USA on Syfy, has not yet been renewed for season two, but it is still airing, so that is no surprise. However, its ratings have been pretty good, landing #3 in the 18-49 demographic for the network, and #3 in overall ratings this season for Syfy. So, numbers-wise, that should put it on track for a renewal, but it will also be a balance of cost vs. ratings for the network as well, so we’ll have to see which way it goes.

UPDATE 12/05/23: Just hours after I posted this, Syfy in the USA, renewed The Ark for Season 2!

Dean Devlin (‘Independence Day’, ‘Stargate’) and Jonathan Glassner (‘Stargate SG-1’, ‘The Outpost’) are co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment. Jonathan English of Balkanic Media and Steve Lee serve as producers.

The Ark‘ Season 1 premieres Tuesday, 25th April 2023 at 9pm with a double-bill on Sky Sci-Fi in the UK. The drama is currently airing on Syfy in the USA.

UPDATE 14/04/23: Frustratingly, it seems there has been a last-minute change, and ‘The Ark‘ has been moved from the previously announced date (which is annoying, as that was supposed to be a “locked” date…) We’ll let you know when it reappears on the schedule.

UPDATE 17/04/23: According to the show’s co-creator, Dean Devlin,  ‘The Ark‘ Season 1 has been confirmed as airing Thursday, 25th May 2023 on Sky Sci-Fi.

UPDATE 12/05/23: And… It looks like Sky has moved the date again… If you want to keep track of this or any other show, add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
