‘Power of Parker’: BBC Sets July Premiere For Conleth Hill Comedy Series

The BBC has set a July premiere date for The Power Of Parker (previously titled ‘Undoing Martin Parker’), a brand new comedy co-created by Bafta Award-winning writers Paul Coleman and Sian Gibson starring ‘Game Of Thrones’ Conleth Hill… albeit with more hair!

It’s Stockport 1990 and Martin Parker, a man with the ambition of Alan Sugar and the looks of Robert Kilroy Silk is slowly waking up to the fact that things are changing. With a chain of electrical stores, a wife, kids and a flash car, he has the perfect life. But in reality, he’s swimming in a sea of debt and lies, and it falls to the two women in his life, Kath and Diane to plot his downfall.

“Martin Parker is a man who seems to have it all and more; beautiful wife and family, beautiful long-term mistress, impressive detached home, successful chain of electrical goods shops, the confidence, the suits, the cowboy boots and car,” said Conleth Hill. “But all is not as happy and successful as it seems, he has made bad business decisions and is against the clock to sort the whole mess out.”

‘The Power Of Parker’ plots his downfall at the hands of all those he’s screwing over with his lust for money, sex and success. Including wife Diane (Rosie Cavaliero), father-in-law Dougie (George Costigan), mobile hairdresser Kath (Sian Gibson) and Kath’s best mate Gladys (Sheila Reid). With 90s’ big hair and big laughs to match.

“Kath works as a mobile hairdresser in a retirement home, she loves her job and gets to spend her day gossiping with the residents and her best friend Gladys, played by Sheila Reid,” adds actress and co-creator Sian Gibson. “She is an eternal optimist, full of life and definitely wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s not had the most blissful upbringing and is prepared to fight for what she wants. She also loves a bit of double denim.”

Paul Coleman and Sian Gibson created and will write the series. They previously worked together on the Bafta Award-winning ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’. Conleth Hill is best known for his role as Varys in ‘Game Of Thrones’, although for this role his has retained his impressive and illustrious head of hair! Rosie Cavaliero (‘Worzel Gummidge’), George Costigan (‘Happy Valley’) and Sheila Reid (‘Benidorm’) also star.

The series has been commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. It is co-created and written by Paul Coleman and Sian Gibson, produced by Gill Isles, executive produced by Kate Daughton for Boffola pictures and Head of BBC Comedy Tanya Qureshi and will be co-produced with Lookout Point.

The Power Of Parker‘ premieres Friday, 28th July 2023 on BBC One and iPlayer.
