Starz continues its shake-up of the ‘Power’ franchise, as they announce ‘Power Book IV: Force‘ will end with Season 3, which is currently filming in Chicago.
The series follows Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) who is on a mission to avenge Liliana and take over the Chicago drug world. He must decide what he is willing to sacrifice to finally ascend the throne of a kingpin.
This is the second of the ‘Power’ spin-off series to end in recent months after Starz announced ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ would conclude after 4 Seasons. However, the franchise is sticking around, as they also revealed a new prequel series, ‘Power: Origins’, which will take us back to delve into the origin story of fan-favourite characters, Ghost and Tommy. So this move makes a certain amount of sense, with the older “Ghost” and “Tommy” making way for their younger incarnations.
“It is bittersweet to write the fulfilling ending of this chapter in Tommy’s journey, a character myself and fans have grown to love over the past decade,” said showrunner and executive producer Gary Lennon. “Season 3 will question everything we thought we knew of Tommy’s world and I promise you it will not disappoint! Although this may be the end of the road for Force, there is much more expansive, compelling storytelling for the characters within the Power Universe.”
This is all part of a strategy by Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch to help curtail the costs of long-running dramas. By ending some of the spin-offs which gradually increase in cost due to rising wage bills, but then ordering new ones to replace them, you can keep a big franchise like “Power” alive, but make sure they are priced at a more manageable level. It also allows the show creators to explore more areas of the “Power” Universe.
Gary Lennon (“Power,” “Euphoria”) served as showrunner and executive producer for season two and will return for season three of ‘Power Book IV: Force’. The “Power” Universe series is executive produced by the creator and showrunner of the original “Power,” Courtney A. Kemp through her production company End of Episode, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film and Television, and Mark Canton through Atmosphere Entertainment MM. Terri Kopp and Chris Selak also serve as executive producers. Lionsgate Television produces the series for STARZ
The “Power” Universe series all now air on Amazon channel MGM+ in the UK and on Starz in the USA. ‘Power Book II: Ghost‘ Season 4 premieres Friday, 7th June 2024 on MGM+ in the UK and on STARZ in the USA. About Prime Video’s MGM+ Channel
If you’re a little confused about the MGM+ Channel, it is one of Prime Video UK’s additional “add-on” channels, which costs £4.49 per month. It replaces the Lionsgate+ Channel/streaming service, which has closed down. If you were a Lionsgate+ Channel subscriber on Prime Video, you should find your subscription has been switched to MGM+. Unfortunately, unlike Lionsgate+ which allowed you to sign up separately to Prime Video, MGM+ is only available as an Amazon Prime channel in the UK.
MGM+ in the UK is the exclusive home to some of STARZ’s most popular first-run TV series, including the complete ‘Outlander’ franchise, ‘Power’ Book I-IV, ‘BMF’, ‘The Serpent Queen’, ‘P-Valley’, and ‘Hightown’. Additionally, the MGM+ service will become the home to legacy hit series ‘The Great’, ‘Mad Men’, ‘Nashville’, ‘Weeds’, as well as blockbuster hit movies ‘American Psycho’, ‘Reservoir Dogs’, ‘Saw’, and many more favourites.
