Prime Video has released a trailer for ‘Nautilus‘, the 10-episode live-action series inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, which premieres later this month on the streaming service in the UK and Ireland.
‘Nautilus’ tells the origin story of Captain Nemo: an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, joining him as he steals a formidable prototype submarine and escapes into the Indian Ocean with a ragtag crew, determined to enact revenge against the ruthless East India Mercantile Company.
The series stars Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery) in the title role, with Georgia Flood (Apples Never Fall, Wentworth), Thierry Fremont (Das Boot) and Céline Menville (Emily in Paris). It also features guest appearances from the legendary Richard E Grant, along with Anna Torv (Fringe, The Last Of Us, Mindhunter) and Noah Taylor (Peaky Blinders, Foundation, Game of Thrones).
‘Nautilus’ was originally developed for Disney+, however, despite the drama having completed filming, as part of their cost-cutting measures back in August last year, the “mouse house” ditched the series, opting to sell it on to other broadcasters. It was then picked up by AMC in the USA, and Prime Video in the UK and Ireland through an exclusive deal with Disney Entertainment. ‘Nautilus’ is distributed by Disney Entertainment and acknowledges the support from the Australian Government’s Location Incentive and from the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.
The series is developed and produced by Moonriver TV’s Xavier Marchand and Seven Stories’ Anand Tucker, is written and executive produced by James Dormer (Strike Back, Sinbad, Devils) and is executive produced by Johanna Devereaux, Chris Loveall, Colleen Woodcock and Daisy Gilbert. Cameron Welsh serves as producer and Michael Matthews (Love and Monsters) serves as lead director of this epic adventure series with later episodes directed by Ben Lucas (The Wilds) and Isabelle Sieb (Vigil, The Devil’s Hour).
‘Nautilus‘ premieres Friday, 25th October 2024 on Prime Video UK and Ireland. It will premiere at some point on AMC in the USA, although they haven’t given an exact date yet.
