‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Finds It’s Captain In Chris O’Donnell

by Dave Elliott

Former ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ star Chris O’Donnell is trading in his bulletproof vest for a firesuit as ABC announces he will take a leading role in the new spin-off series, 9-1-1: Nashville.

‘9-1-1: Nashville’ comes, once again, from Ryan Murphy & Tim Minear, alongside ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ showrunner Rashad Raisani. O’Donnell will take the part of “Captain Don Sharpe,” a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.

Chris O’Donnell is the first of the cast to be announced for the new spin-off drama, which will join the main ‘9-1-1’ show on ABC at some point either later this year or early next year. It is something of a replacement for ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ which aired on US network Fox for seven seasons. Whilst Disney, who produce the ‘9-1-1’ franchise, opted to save the mothership series when Fox cancelled it, they decided it would be too expensive to also save ‘Lone Star’. Instead, they opted to develop a new spin-off, which became ‘9-1-1: Nashville’.

O’Donnell is probably best known for his role as Special Agent G. Callen on the hit CBS series ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’, along with playing “Robin” in ‘Batman Forever’, and ‘Batman & Robin’. He rose to fame in the early 1990s with memorable roles in films such as ‘Scent of a Woman’, ‘School Ties’, and ‘Circle of Friends’.

We don’t know any more about the show, other than it will be 9-1-1, set in Nashville, and comes from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. We’ll let you know if and when they announce any more casting for it.

9-1-1: Nashville‘ does not yet have a premiere date but is set for the 2025/2026 season in the USA on ABC, so will likely land in early 2026 on Disney+ UK. If you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
