Sky Releases First Look At ‘Prisoner’ As Tahar Rahim And Izuka Hoyle Lead A High-Stakes New Thriller

by Dave Elliott

Sky has unveiled a tense first look at Prisoner, a six-part action thriller arriving in 2026 that straps together a principled prison transport officer, a deadly inmate, and a crime syndicate with a long list of unpleasant hobbies. Created and written by Matt Charman and brought to life by director Otto Bathurst, the series looks set to deliver a frantic race for survival across the UK.

The story centres on Amber, played by Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point, Big Boys), a young prison transport officer assigned to escort Tibor, a high-value inmate and trained killer portrayed by Tahar Rahim (The Serpent, Un Prophète). Amber’s job is simple on paper, although nothing involving a man described as a trained killer is ever truly simple. Her convoy is ambushed before she can even finish the metaphorical paperwork, leaving the pair handcuffed together, stranded, and racing to reach court before the syndicate hunting them catches up.

Their uneasy partnership grows more complicated with every step. Amber must decide how far she is willing to go to stay alive, while Tibor becomes both a threat and the only person who might keep her one step ahead of the people who want them dead. It is the sort of moral tangle that tends to end in shouting, sprinting, and the permanent ruin of at least one vehicle.

The supporting cast is an impressive line-up, featuring Eddie Marsan (Back to Black, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe), Catherine McCormack (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, 28 Weeks Later), Leonie Benesch (September 5, Babylon Berlin), Finn Bennett (Black Doves, True Detective), Sam Troughton (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, Black Doves), Laurie Davidson (The Girlfriend, Mary & George), Ken Nwosu (Black Doves, Sticks and Stones), Brían F. O’Byrne (Conclave, The Wonder), and Youssef Kerkour (Lockerbie: A Search For Truth).

Created by Matt Charman (Hostage, Bridge of Spies) and directed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders), the series promises a tense mix of character drama and explosive action, with the kind of escalating problems that make viewers very grateful to watch from a sofa.

‘Prisoner’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Sky and NOW in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you will be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss
