Peaky Blinders ride again as Netflix unveils film continuation ‘The Immortal Man’

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has finally pulled the razor blades from the cap once more, revealing first-look details for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the long-awaited cinematic continuation of Tommy Shelby’s story. Four years on from the end of the hit series, the Shelbys are returning to our screens in a new feature film coming this March, written by creator Steven Knight and directed by Tom Harper.

Cillian Murphy is back in the flat cap as Tommy Shelby, and he sounds pretty delighted about it. “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy told Netflix. “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.” Given the mountain of cigarettes and stress the man went through across six seasons, fans will be eager to see what finally drags Tommy out of exile for one more showdown.

The story of ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’

Set in Birmingham in 1940, the film finds Tommy Shelby dragged back from a supposedly peaceful exile as World War II erupts around him. The country is in chaos and the Shelby empire is under threat. Tommy must confront a reckoning that could shatter both his family and the nation, forcing him to decide whether to face his legacy or burn it to ash. By order of the Peaky Blinders.

“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” Knight told Netflix. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

The cast

Tommy is not riding into battle alone. The film features a stacked cast of returning favourites and new faces, including Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place Part II), Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, A House Of Dynamite), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, The Hateful Eight), Sophie Rundle (After The Flood, Gentleman Jack), Ned Dennehy (Culprits, The Peripheral), Packy Lee (Blue Lights), Ian Peck (His Dark Materials, Robin Hood), Jay Lycurgo (Steve, Half Bad: The Bastard Son And The Devil Himself), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees Of Inisherin), and Stephen Graham (Adolescence, A Thousand Blows).

A proper heavyweight lineup as Tommy Shelby marches into another war.
