Sky Orders New ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ TV Series Based on Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Novels

by Dave Elliott

Sky has commissioned a brand new original drama series adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, bringing Stieg Larsson’s globally bestselling Millennium novels back to the screen in an eight-part contemporary reimagining.

The series comes from Left Bank Pictures, the studio behind The Crown and Dept. Q, and will reintroduce Lisbeth Salander and the Millennium world through a modern lens, while staying rooted in the investigative DNA and themes that made the original books such a phenomenon. With more than 100 million copies sold worldwide, Larsson’s novels remain one of the most successful crime fiction franchises of all time, and Sky is clearly aiming to tap into that enduring appeal.

Writing and executive producing duties sit with Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher, Behind Her Eyes, Spider-Noir) and Angela LaManna (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Behind Her Eyes). They are joined by executive producers Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore and John Phillips for Left Bank Pictures, alongside Sam Hoyle for Sky. The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures, with Sony Pictures Television handling international distribution and pre-sales already underway in the United States.

Production is set to begin in Spring 2026, with filming taking place in Lithuania. Sky has confirmed the drama will air across the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

This new adaptation follows earlier screen versions of Larsson’s work, including the acclaimed 2011 film directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, as well as 2018’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Sky’s take, however, is positioned as a bold, present-day reinvention rather than a straight retelling.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoodoes not yet have a UK premiere date but will air on Sky in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
