Channel 5 Orders Dark Drama ‘Forever Home’, Adapting Graham Norton’s Best-Selling Novel

by Dave Elliott

Channel 5 has commissioned Forever Home, a new six-part drama adapting the best-selling novel by Graham Norton. The series is set to air in 2026 and brings Norton’s darkly comic, emotionally twisted story to the screen for the first time.

At the centre of ‘Forever Home’ is Carol, a second wife trying to make peace with the lingering presence of the woman who came before her. That uneasy balancing act takes a horrifying turn when Carol discovers a long-dead body hidden in the basement of her home. The story her husband told about his first wife simply running away begins to unravel, and his lifelong refusal to sell the house suddenly makes grim sense. One buried secret soon leads to another, pulling Carol into a spiral of lies, suspicion, and unsettling truths about the family she thought she knew.

The drama stars Amy Nuttall (The Feud, Downton Abbey) as Carol, alongside Douglas Henshall (Shetland, The Revenge Club), Denise Welch (Waterloo Road, Tip Toe), Kevin Whately (Inspector Morse, Lewis), Samantha Bond (The Marlow Murder Club, The Inheritance), Lewis Cope (Emmerdale, Strictly Come Dancing), Jenny Walser (Heartstopper, Sweetpea S2), Shane Zaza (Invasion, Big Boys), and James Baxter (Alma’s Not Normal, Waterloo Road).

The adaptation is written by Clara Salaman, who also executive produces alongside Norton. The series is co-produced by FilmNation Entertainment and The Mediapro Studio, with filming taking place in Northumberland, supported by the North East Production Fund and North East Screen. Direction duties are shared between Paul Gay and Claire Winyard, with international distribution handled by The Mediapro Studio.

Speaking about the adaptation, Norton described the novel as evolving into a “funny, twisted, dark-romp,” adding that it has been a joy to see the depth of Carol’s story translated into a screenplay. Channel 5’s commissioning team echoed that enthusiasm, highlighting the project as a strong addition to their growing drama slate and praising both the cast and the North East setting.

Blending dark humour with psychological tension, ‘Forever Home’ is described as an emotional story about marriage, family, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her children, all wrapped inside a mystery that refuses to stay buried.

Forever Home’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Channel 5 in the UK in 2026. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
