Prime Video has confirmed that ‘The House of the Spirits’ will premiere globally this April, bringing the first Spanish-language television adaptation of Isabel Allende’s landmark novel to screens in more than 240 countries and territories. The announcement was made at the 76th Berlinale Film Festival, where anticipation for the sweeping family saga has been building.
Based on Isabel Allende’s internationally acclaimed novel, ‘The House of the Spirits’ is an eight-episode drama spanning half a century. The story centres on three generations of women, Clara, Blanca and Alba, living in a conservative South American country shaped by class struggle, political upheaval and touches of magic realism. If you know the book, you’ll know this isn’t exactly a cosy Sunday afternoon drama. It’s epic, intimate and politically charged all at once.
The series stars Alfonso Herrera (Rebel Moon) as Esteban Trueba, with Nicole Wallace (Our Fault) and Dolores Fonzi (Belén) portraying Clara del Valle at different stages of her life. The wider cast includes Fernanda Castillo (The Lord of the Skies) as Férula, Aline Küppenheim (A Fantastic Woman) as Nivea del Valle, Eduard Fernández (The Skin I Live In) as Severo del Valle, Sara Becker (The Movie Teller) and Fernanda Urrejola (Cry Macho) as Blanca, Rochi Hernández (30 Nights with my Ex) as Alba, Juan Pablo Raba (News of a Kidnapping) as Tío Marcos, alongside Pablo Macaya (In Her Place) and Nicolás Contreras (Baby Bandito) as Pedro Tercero.
Isabel Allende serves as an executive producer on the adaptation, joined by Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and Courtney Saladino. Showrunning duties fall to Francisca Alegría (The Cow Who Sang a Song Into the Future), Fernanda Urrejola (Cry Macho) and Andrés Wood (News of a Kidnapping). The series is produced by FilmNation Entertainment, the multi Academy Award-winning company behind Anora and Conclave, with support from Chilean producer Fabula, known for The Eternal Memory and A Fantastic Woman.
Adapting The House of the Spirits for television is no small task. The novel’s blend of intimate family drama, national trauma and magical realism has made it a literary touchstone for decades. Translating that scale and emotional density into eight episodes will be a fascinating balancing act, especially in long form where the political and personal threads can properly breathe.
‘The House of the Spirits’ premieres Wednesday, 29th April 2026 on Prime Video.
