The Science Museum in London is boldly going all-in on ‘Star Trek‘ this year, announcing a major celebration marking the franchise’s 60th anniversary. As part of the programme, the museum will host a special IMAX cinema season screening all 13 theatrical ‘Star Trek’ films, giving fans a rare chance to see the entire saga back on the big screen.
Taking place at IMAX: The Ronson Theatre, one of the largest cinema screens in the UK, the season will run from late March through June. All the films will be presented in 4K, with several titles specially digitised for the screenings, while the three most recent movies will be shown in full IMAX digital format.
The event forms part of a broader ‘Star Trek at 60’ celebration at the Science Museum, which launches with a special edition of the museum’s popular adults-only Lates event.
Dr Glyn Morgan, Head of Collections and Principal Curator at the Science Museum, said:
“Star Trek has invited audiences to be curious explorers for decades – a mission we know something about at the Science Museum. Star Trek as a cultural phenomenon has played a real role in changing the world of STEM, from inspiring technical innovations to encouraging a generation of modern astronauts. I hope that this Star Trek at 60 programme at the Science Museum inspires visitors to consider what might be possible if you boldly go where no one has gone before.”
A Rare Chance To Watch Every ‘Star Trek’ Movie On The Big Screen
The IMAX film season will run from Thursday, 26th March 2026 through Thursday, 18th June 2026, screening the entire cinematic history of the franchise in chronological order.
That means everything from the original crew’s first big-screen adventure ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ through to the Kelvin-timeline films ‘Star Trek’, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, and ‘Star Trek Beyond’.
Several of the earlier films have been digitised specifically for the screenings, giving audiences the opportunity to experience them on one of Europe’s largest cinema screens in a way they rarely have before.
Among the highlights of the season are fan favourites such as ‘Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’, often regarded as one of the greatest entries in the franchise, ‘Star Trek: First Contact’, the acclaimed Next Generation movie, and the crossover adventure ‘Star Trek Generations’ which united Captain Kirk and Captain Picard on the big screen.
‘Star Trek’ Takes Over The Science Museum
The cinema season is only part of the celebration. Visitors heading to the museum will also find a new ‘Star Trek’ trail running throughout the building, featuring iconic objects from the franchise’s archives including screen-used props.
The trail explores how the long-running sci-fi universe has influenced real-world science and technology, highlighting connections between ideas seen in the series and developments in fields such as space exploration, communication technology and robotics.
Fans will also be able to browse a special Star Trek retail range, available in the museum shop. The collection includes a limited-edition anniversary coin, clothing and accessories, as well as themed merchandise celebrating the franchise’s iconic starships.
Star Trek Lates Launch Event
The celebrations kick off with a special ‘Star Trek’ themed edition of the Science Museum’s Lates event, the popular after-hours evening that opens the museum exclusively for adults.
Alongside DJs, speakers and performers, visitors will be able to explore the Star Trek trail for the first time, browse the anniversary merchandise and take part in themed experiences including a 360-degree Enterprise bridge photo opportunity.
Costumes are encouraged too, giving Trekkies the chance to show off their best Starfleet uniforms or alien disguises.
The ‘Star Trek at 60’ programme launches on Thursday, 26th March 2026, with the IMAX film season running through to June, and the museum trail and celebrations continuing throughout the summer.
